Anothertale is mainly focused around the Sans of this universe. Anothertale is similar to the universe Storyshift/Underswap/Dusttale when it comes to swapping characters around and storyline. Sans goes by Runt even though he doesn’t like the nickname.
Who Is Who?:
Sans takes the place of Chara.
Papyrus takes the place of Frisk.
Frisk takes the place of Toriel.
Chara takes the place of Asgore.
Toriel takes the place of Muffet.
Asgore takes the place of Grillby.
Muffet takes the place of Alphys.
Grillby takes the place of Undyne.
Alphys assists Toriel.
Undyne assists Asgore.
There is no Asriel.
There is no Flowey.
Gaster exists.
When it comes to the story of Anothertale it begins with the monster and human war. Frisk and Chara as children took the side of monsters and with their strong magical abilities and soul power they fought well but, were banished with the monsters in the end. They were crowned king and queen with Chara being king and Frisk being queen. The story then falters to where Sans and Papyrus come into this. During the war Sans and Papyrus were human children. Because of the war between humans and monsters, Sans grew a strong hatred for both species since it brought pain to both him and his brother. The two would flee their home only getting trapped in the same area that Frisk would fall in the original universe. They tried to survive while trapped but, Papyrus was the first to parish causing Sans to retort to cannibalism to survive. This caused a huge mental strain on him and he would eat bugs and rats until he too died. Eventually, years had went by while the war continued and Sans and Papyrus decayed into skeletons. Not to long after Frisk, Chara and the monsters were banished to the underground. Years had went by until the lost of a fellow scientist named Gaster. As a spirit, Gaster brought life to Sans and Papyrus but they had become skeleton children in the process. With the twos rebirth they were able to see Gaster but, they were also able to relive their lives now. Unfortunately, the two remember their past which caused Sans to still have a lot of the hatred for both monster and human. He believed that it was their fault for what happened to him and his brother.
While growing up in the underground, Sans would get into fights with other monsters and Papyrus would have to break it up. Papyrus would plead and beg for his brother to stop fighting but Sans would only reply that he was protecting Papyrus from them. Sans would also get in trouble with the King and Queen but he did not care too much about it. One day, Sans had noticed some monsters picking on Papyrus and Sans attacked the children killing them in the process. This caused Sans to lash out at others and Papyrus would block Sans from attacking others only to be attacked himself. The reason for Sans attacking his brother was that he was protecting him and he was only getting in the way. Sans took his brother’s soul and would put it into a jar for safe keeping. Sans then continued his rampage letting the hatred that was filled inside him out finally. This would only kill everyone in the process.
Sans would then live out his days picking off humans that fall into the underground until Nightmare Sans would visit him. Of course this happened decades after the killings of the whole underground. With a deal of getting to take his hatred out on other universes Sans would bring negativity to others for Nightmare to feast upon. Till this day Sans still works with Nightmare.
