Description
Klonoa - Door to Phantomile is a game released in 1997, It's a platform game developed and published by Namco for the PlayStation. This is the first game in the series, too bad they weren't succesful overseas, I don't get why, It's a fun platformer with some 2.5D elements, I played it for the first time in a demo CD with the PsOne, back then I didn't speak english so I didn't care about the story.
Then, there was a sequel callled Klonoa 2 - Lunatea's Veil, I played it over a friend's house in 2006 and I liked everything about it, the level design, and the simple yet well executed gameplay, Doot to Phantomile is where it all began and it did it right, not even games like Megaman X4/5/6 had a level design so great It actually made me want to play the stages again and I still keep both of them it in my mind as great games, I know there was a GBA game here and there, and a remake of this one for the Wii, but never again I heard of a true sequel I miss the 2.5D gameplay, the characters and etc, I would love a Klonoa 3.....but.....the Wii remake was a commercial failure so....goodbye Klonoa 3.....and hello thousands of Tekken games.

But dude, just because a remake of a classic didn't sell as they expected doesn't mean they will convert into fighting games like Capcom did. And besides, the latter is going through far worst than that.
But aside from that......THOSE FACES!!!

Its a shame... but I think Klonoa Might have a chance in the spotlight in the future. I herd that The Sequel to Super smash bro.s brawl would include characters from Namco franchises. and not to mention that Klonoa appeared in SoulCaibur V as a hat in the character creation, so, in a way, Namco seems to remember Klonoa as part of their licensed Trademarks.
And Not to mention that Klonoa is not the only video game character that was underrated and forgotten. Look at Pit From the Kid Icarus Franchise; he used to be just as underrated as the past two Klonoa Games in which you mentioned, and wouldn't you know it, once he appeared in Super smash bros. brawl, he got himself a true sequel.
So let's pray that our fellow Dream traveler would once again be recognized by the general pubic.
Let's pray.....

Honestly, I think the franchise is dead.
" When we released the Wii version of Klonoa, I was thinking about sequels and stuff, but apparently it didn't sell that well. So right now I'm not really thinking about any sequels."

If they put him in the next SSB I'm pretty sure it will be just a trophy or something.
Namco will probably put PacMan in since he is basically the icon of videogames, It doesn't matter if Klonoa is cute or child friendly, I don't think he will ever get the attention he deserves.

*Sigh*....I never saw that Quote coming.....
You have to understand that I am a Huge fan of klonoa to the point that i'd consider it my favorite Video game franchise I've seen in my life.I loved everything about it; The story, the gameplay, the characters and even the whimsical atmosphere!
All I hope is that another (more devoted) development team has the chance to give Klonoa the franchise it deserves.
P.S. Although that quote may come from the Producer (of the Wii Remake), You never will know if the Creator hasn't given up on the franchise. So my hopes still remain high.

Klonoa is still alive, he has a lot cameos in namco's games and also they are doing the official webcomic, we just have to make Klonoa more famous and we could get Klonoa 3, I also bet that december 15 Namco will do something because it's Klonoa's 15th anniversary so maybe Namco was working on an extremely good new Klonoa 3 and wanted to release it the 15th, remembers me of what Nintendo did with skyward sword, 5 or more years in the works to make that awesome game. We don't have to wait, if we want something, we need to do something.

They didn't do anything for the 10th anniversary ( I think...), maybe the webcomic is what they did to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the series.

but it's their fault because they didn't make any ad at all for it and the webcomic looks like a Klonoa 3 and the fact that shiftylook work at namco makes me think that namco is giving info to shiftylook instead of making them work on their own.

So far the story of the webcomic looks like a fanfic, don't get me wrong, I like it but....Klonoa games should take place in different worlds/dreams, having Klonoa and Huepow reuniting kinda ruins the sadness of the ending of the first game.
Professionally making a webcomic is completelly different than spending a shitload of money to make a game that don't sell.

well but the webcomic is counting empire of dreams and dream champ tournament in the story so that's why Klonoa and Huepow met, wonder where in the chronology empire of dreams is, people say it's before dtp but feels weird

Only Door to Phantomile and Lunatea's Veil are canon, the rest of them are just spinoffs, I think that's what Namco considers to be the timeline, kinda makes sense.
I heard that Moonlight Museum is canon to DtP, kinda makes sense since he has the same outfit, and the Maze of Memories level in Lunatea's Veil has the same music from MM, so technically the timeline is something like MM >> DtP >> LV.

I don't know if there's a reason to lose any hope, but last year Bandai Namco released the first Klonoa for PS1 for PSN and you can get it by using PSP, PS-Vita or PS3. I'd be very eager to wait for a new game of Klonoa and get my hands on it, but the question is that if Namco Bandai's gonna make one. I mean, if we talk about the main series of Klonoa games, it took 6( since Klonoa 2)-12(since Klonoa PS1) years for the new Klonoa for Wii to be released. I'm a big fan of Klonoa and in order to make Namco Bandai work with new Klonoa, I've tried to make everybody on Facebook vote for it, and now that I think of it, I think I have another trick in my sleeve! I can understand if they make games every year or few like most of the game companies, but 12 years! I don't think I can wait another 12 years for a new Klonoa to be released and it's been 3-4 years since the last game and after that the new game hasn't been made or released, and before the last one was released, I've waited the whole 6-12 years for it to be released! Can you believe it?! I haven't heard any news about the next Klonoa game since the last game. However Wikipedia did say, if the Wii version succeeds, they would make another Wii adaption of Klonoa 2, but there's nothing about it going on!

This is a very nice picture. I complained about the same things as you with a Klonoa picture I posted a while back. It is so unfair that game companies judge our interest in a new game in the series by remaking an old game. Most people want the new game, not the remake in the first place. I am getting really ticked off of this generation of gaming and these stupid financial decisions like this!
This was the same crap Square-Enix posed with a sequel to the Chrono series. The DS version of Chrono Trigger didn't sell that great so no new game in the series...Chrono Trigger is awesome but how many times do we have to buy it for them to think we want a sequel?

Square did the same thing with The World Ends with You, instead of a sequel they announced a IOS port.
Instead of a Final Fantasy 6/7 remake we got that...

Square-Enix is a company that needs to get back in gear to real game making and push things forward instead of all the garbage they have been producing lately. I feel bad for my poor Enix having to be a part of that messed up company.
As many great games as Squaresoft produced in the '90's I still prefer Enix over them. They pushed new and interesting games in the genre and published some really amazing titles.

Ugh... Crisis Core and TWEWY were two very overrated games to me. I disliked both of them.
Final Fantasy XIII gets the hate because it is less a game than an interactive movie. You rarely even play the thing!

Hideo Yoshizawa said himself: If the game sells, we'll make a 3rd one, but the game sold poorly so...forget it.
It's not a bad game, it has it flaws, sure, the most common complaint is that it's too easy, but the kind of fun you get from playing any of the games in the series is the same from as Kirby, not really challenging, but fun as hell.
Amazing how Sonic's crappy 3d games ( except Colors ) sells and this doesn't....
