It’s actually a very simple process. I’m really bad at explaining words, though, without rambling. Maybe I’ll be a tutorial. c:

Use the standard brush in PS. xD I just lower the flow and enable opacity sensitivity to get a softer look. c:

I used to use PS, now I use Sai. But I sometimes send SAI drawings to PS to fix things. c:

Basically what I did to shade this was I made a clipping mask layer on top of the flats, filled it with a color for shading (redish-pink), and set the layer to Multiply. Then I erased where I wanted there to be light. You can do it in SAI, but you can’t adjust the flow.
