The Alicorn's predecessor was the inspiration for the unicorn, Qilin and Kirin legends.

            Cloned from one of the fossils collected by the Decepticons, during it's growth Shockwave noticed something was different about it and six others and moved them to another cavern with the intent to study them later. During that time Shockwave also experimented on the Alicorn causing her to grow bigger then her predecessor and sprout wings.

            When Predaking showed his ability to transform and the Decepticons decision to destroy the other protoforms Shockwave tried to cut off power to the hidden lab so they'd die. The Autobot's explosion blocked off their chamber but the Maximal's survived, broke out and escaped onto Earth.
