A new day was coming upon Ridge Runner Stables and everyone was either asleep or busy running around doing their morning chores. Though, nobody noticed a 7 month old filly crawl out from under the fence and run into the forest.
Bell wandered around the forest for a bit before finding a spot by a small pond. She sat down by it and looked down to the water. The surface reflected back to show herself. Bell looked at the mirror image of her and frowned.
“Momma says I need to look my best and be a proper lady all the time. But I don’t see the reason why go through all the trouble when your just gonna get covered in dirt or mud anyway?” She didn’t notice a night-time looking stallion had come up beside her as she was talking to herself until he started to talk which made her jump.
“Some people believe that it’s a safer and proper way to live but it’s nowhere near as fun.” Bell turned to him and smiled.
“I know! I love having fun adventures and getting dirty.” The stallion chuckled.
“You remind me of myself when I was your age.”
“I do?” Bell asked tilting her head. The stallion nodded.
“Yes you do. My name is Chandra’s Moon Dust, but you can just call me Chandra. What’s your name?”
“My name is Southern Bell. But everyone at Ridge Runner Stables just calls me Bell.”
“Your name fits you well. Let’s start heading back to your home. I think your family is worried about you.” Chandra turned and started to walk back into the forest. Bell turned as well and trotted after him.
“Ridge Runner won’t be my home for long.”
“Oh? And why is that?” He turned his head to the filly as they walked.
“My momma said that I’m gonna go to a new stable today called Crystal Rose and be apart of their family for a while.” Bell looked up at Chandra as she was saying it.
“Crystal Rose? I believe I’ve heard of it before. And from what I’ve heard, your going to like it there.” The two then went silent for a while as Bell went into her own thoughts and Chandra turned back to the trail ahead of them. Bell turned her head back to Chandra.
"Hey Chandra, do you think the others at my new home will even like me?" Bells ears lowered at the thought. But her ears perked back up when she heard the stallion beside her chuckle.
"A good kid like you? Why wouldn't they like you?"
"It's just that, I'm not like most fillies my age. I love playing in the rain and in the mud And I don't like trying to keep clean and be pretty."
“And why would being clean and pretty matter? I’ve seen a lot of mares are the exact opposite. There is no set standard for any gender that you have to follow. You can be who or what you want to be.”
“Bu-”
“No buts. Kid, it doesn’t matter what others tell you. All that matters is what you think is right and to not let others opinions change who you are.” Bell smile grew.
“Thank you for that Chandra.” Chandras own smile grew as well.
“Your welcome kid.” Both stopped and turned their heads to the sound of hoofbeats hitting the ground sounding as if someone was running. A mare with a dark red coat and unique tobiano markings rounded the corner of a huge rock and skidded to a halt in front of the two.
"Ah there you are Bell! Your mother was looking for you. It's time to head to your new home."
"I'm coming Sicorah. Thank you again for talking with me Chandra. It helped me a lot."
"Your welcome again kid. Now get going so you can meet your new family.” Bell nodded and trotted after Sicorah who had turned to head back. Both started off back to Ridge Runner and Bell turned her head over her shoulder.
“Bye Chandra! I hope to meet you again!”
“See you later Bell! Have fun at your new home!”
“I will!” And with that, both girls had cantered out of Chandras sight and back to their stable. Chandra turned to head back to his own home with a smile on his face.
‘That kid isn’t just going to be another pretty face. She’s at least gonna grow up to be herself.’
