Rough sketch ref is messy. XD(please note that my Avians are a closed species)
I have been quite roadblocked on art processes lately, like severely. DA isn't that appealing so much anymore. It's definitely gone downhill a lot.
It also doesn't help that every time I post I get some nasty children throwing tantrums.
So in spite of it all I managed to doodle some of my older Avian characters who have needed a ref in like forever. Now they finally get a very messy vague reference. XD
Thank ~Zukuda for this due to she wanted me to draw more mandarin.

I cleaned up Mandarin a lot since he was very messy in that image
Which is funny because I think they both were one of the first Avian characters. XD

Oh these two! I love them <3 Me and ~Foxchibi were talking a little while ago and were wondering about these two. I'd love to know more about them as backstories and histories have always been fascinating to me. So how did they meet I supose?

I'm so glad I check your scraps every now and again, otherwise I would have missed this XD
I honestly can't see the "sparkle" in their designs XD especially for madarin, that fish has
a gorgeous set of colors that your basing him from and it's not over the top at all like
actual "sparkle" characters that have horrid color schemes.
Anyway i'm so glad I finally can see these two clearly in their new designs <333

Cadbury has my favorite set of complimentary colors so I have always loved her design
but she looks so much more elegant and clean now in this new ref c:

Dawe' These two have to be near the top favs of your avian characters, these two just look so happy together. My only question is what are heir elements? I don't think I see it on there XD

She is fire, and he is water, the elemental signs are on their pinion feathers with some extra bits to make the markings more personalized

I think it looks great. It's simple to me, not messy at all. Sometimes simple is good.
I do think the female's appearance seems neater and cleaner compared to the very first images. The picture of the two of them together flying is very elegant. I can see why you revamped them just a little. Brings out more of the 'sparkle' character.
It's funny though, I think as artists we tend to redesign some of our characters a little too much. I know I've done that a few times with some of my own characters. It's like we're never satisfied until it looks just right.
Anyway, I think it looks good. I'm sorry some people on DA are so... ah, immature? It's never fun when there's one place you'd like to be and its appeal has died because someone else can't be sensible. I admit I hope to see more continued artistic wonders from you in the future, but I completely understand how you feel.

I think a lot of her cleanliness comes from me removing the golden boot markings from her legs. allowing her to look like she is wearing gloves.
And I think the motto KISS (keep it simple stupid) should be taught to a lot of people nowadays since it seems like there is a huge contest going on to see who can out design eachother.

I hear you there! A friend of mine mentioned the 'KISS' ideal, and I try to use it but... I think I am the WORST at trying to draw too much on one sheet of paper.
As far as the 'boot', I don't even recall seeing it before. I'll go back and look, but they still look great!

Sigh, I know what you mean about DevArt going downhill, though I personally think they were doing a lot of things wrong even back when I first joined. Just can't find a better place.
I love when people use colors from real animals, nature really had the best imagination. It was nice to see a mandarin fish in action, I'd only seen stills before. His hovering back and forth was so cute.
Onto your drawing, even though you say it's rough, well...gosh, it's beautifully executed. Amazing use of color, everything's so smooth, and I could wax poetic about the loveliness of the anatomy all day. They seem to be an interesting pair, I'll be looking through your gallery to learn more about them!

I sadly don't have much about them posted in my gallery, the only thing that I really have placed is that they are Ripha's parents, and I am thinking that the Avian in the image "blue ashes" is likely Cadbury's father.

Mandarin was actually named after that fish, as he became a character after I drew him. ^^

I love Mandarin because the fish from which it draws the color is one of my favorite fish <3
Cadbury is also very nice but I do not know what animal the colors come from, unless it is taxed as color it ^^
