Description

Rachel couldn't belive it. Taizai had run a perfect race, the filly ran effortlessly and Rachel didn't have to push her a single time. But then after crossing the finish line she slowed, started limping and eventually broke down. Rachel immediately got off the bay filly, pulling off the saddle and holding her front leg so that it couldn't bear any weight. The filly desperately tried to lay down, and the weight of Taizai's leg started taking a toll on the frail jokey's strength.

The next few minutes seemed to happen in slow motion. People came rushing to the scene. Bright lights illuminated to track as an ambulance and numerous vets came to assess the filly. Taizai was strangely calm throughout the whole ordeal. She made no fuss, and while it was evident that she was in pain she stood quietly, only occasionally lifting her tender front leg. Her gaze kept wondering over to Rachel, who was now surrounded by Oliver, Sean and the rest of the staff.

"What the hell happened out there? Rachel did you get hurt?" Oliver demanded.
The girl was kneeling on the ground, sobbing as Sean tried to get her on her feet again.
"I...I don't know...but I'm fine" was all Rachel managed to say between tears. "She was running so well...It's all my fault" another sob.
"Hey hey don't say that" Oliver said, "As long as you're ok everything will be fine" he reassured her.
Leaving Sean to tend to Rachel, Oliver turned to face the vets surrounding his filly.

"How is she?" he asked worridly.
The vet sighed "I'm going to be honest with you: it doesn't look too good. She's not putting any weight on that front leg. My guess is that it's fractured, worst case it could even be broken." he said grimly.
"Damn it..." Oliver muttered under his breath. He pushed past the small crowd and faced the filly, who at this point was lying on her side.
"Look at you girl" he whispered. He could feel Taiza's warm breath as she breathed heavily into his palm. Oliver looked into her big brown eyes, then slowly got up and faced the vets.

"Right, get her loaded in the truck" he ordered. His gaze rested on the bay filly and then on Rachel, who wouldn't stop asking how Taizai was doing.
"Sir, where is she headed to?" the vet asked. "If you're going to euthanize her, she'd be in less pain if it was done here" he advised.
But Oliver gave no response, his eyes were fixed on Rachel who was pleading for someone to let her see the horse.
She'd never forgive me...Oliver thought, but if it's the right thing to do...then..
"Sir? Sir where is the horse going?" the vet asked once again.
"Nowhere...leave her..." Oliver started, but he couldn't bring himself to finish the sentence. "Just umm..." he started again.
"Just... bring her back to her stall. I'm taking her back home tomorrow" he muttered, shaking his head. "Taizai you'd better recover soon" he smiled, looking back at the filly one last time before turning to check on Rachel.

It had to happen sometime... and the rng lords decided that Taizai couldn't go through with this season without getting injured ;-;
At least it wasn't fatal and hopefully she'll recover soon. However this does mean that Taizai's out for the rest of the season and she'll probably only be back on the track as a 4 year old.
