Description Final drawing of my "celebrating the 20th or 30th anniversary of a movie" series.
Mars Attacks! (1996), directed by Tim Burton and starring a holyfuck cast.

I can see why this movie isn't everyone's cup of tea, but I just had to make a tribute to Mars Attacks! I saw it on TV back in 2000 (so when I was a small 6 year old) and it really impressed me, the scenes, sounds (the sound design and music in this film are amazing), the look of the martians and their sadistic ways, it really left a mark. Now that I think of it, this was probably the first Tim Burton movie I saw from start to finish, besides vaguely seeing scenes from Batman Returns on TV and the opening ad for The Nightmare Before Christmas in my The Lion King VHS (in case you wonder I really became a fan of Burton's stuff in 2010, Beetlejuice is seriously one of the best things ever made by mankind, that movie was very therapeutic to me, I discovered and saw it when I needed it the most).

This easily remains my favorite alien invasion film and even with its uneven humor it has writing that still makes more sense than anything Roland Emmerich has shit out in his whole career, for example. And as you can see Mars Attacks! clearly did its part in influencing the creation of MY alien invaders, the Greens . Look at Vorganius, he's just blissfully fanboying over there.
I do realize that this year it would be the 10th anniversary of James Gunn's Slither (another alien invasion favorite), but I already talked about and praised that movie many times in the past, while on the other hand I did nothing for Mars Attacks! when I should've because I owe alot to it. Don't worry, I'll celebrate Slither's 20th anniversary in 2026, just stick around til then lol

This movie made me laugh when I first saw it. Their speech, mannerisms, and malice. It's one of those movies that was ahead of its time and doesn't need to be touched or remade. It was just good as it was.

Doing a remake/reboot of Mars Attacks! would be REALLY scraping the bottom of the barrel. Or being so unconfident with your alien invasion comedy that you need a known brand hoping it'll get attention (spoilers: it won't. Mars Attacks! has a fanbase but not big enough to be a hot topic). Just make your own thing, if it's good you'll look even more unique and stand out.
...Unless they get someone truly talented that could make something very wicked with the brand, but if I see it's directed by some studio-controlled nobody puppet and written by writers of crappy movies, I'll have no hope right away.

I haven't read the Mars Attacks! comics and the many crossovers they had in those, but they seem fun.

Truly it would be scraping. And the comics are a nice romp from the movie.

Mmmmm nah. Maybe in a comic or something but never in a live action sense.
