Description
When I saw "A Real Magic Skeleton" (...great name XP), this skeleton dude who just so happened to wear gloves and boots that immediately made me think of a certain spaghetti loving character, I felt suspicious, but I let it slide....But the moment I saw Bootleg Burgerpants-I MEAN "Brandon", I decided that was fokin it.
I'm not saying that they based these two characters on Undertale, but considering the writing of this show isn't too afraid to incorporate memes and other things that are popular now on the internet, it wouldn't surprise me if that was the case.
Ah well, either way Papyrus is having fun, that's the important.

There's also the fact that OK K.O. takes place in the year 201X.
The same year Chara climbed Mount Ebott.

Wasn't 201X the year Frisk fell and the story began?

No, the child shown in the cutscenes is Chara. It says so on the Undertale Wiki.

Come to think of it, Raymond does bring Mettaton to mind, and I keep comparing Carol and Mr. Had to Toriel and Asgore.Β
I still really love the show though.Β

Maybe there will be a sequel to this...
Also that blonde girl that betrayed Enid, when she was younger her dress kinda reminded me of Muffet's.Β vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/laβ¦

Oh yeah! Her name is Elodie. It really does look like Muffet's outfit.
Also, now I like to think of child!Undyne and child!Alphys as KO and Dendy.

it's nice art though,
ill admit arms reminded me of the skeleton bros too but that doesn't mean he's a "ripoff" of them... i believe arms was a character originated in the lakewood plaza turbo pilot back in 2013.

I know Brandon appeared in the pilot too.
"Then why do you call them ripoffs?"
...Because this isn't meant to be taken seriously.

I hate that people are saying that ARMS is a reference to Papyrus! Why?
...
He also acts like Sans! π€£

I mean... I'd really hate to be that person but the concept of the knightly skeleton with boots and armor and stuff is hardly new.

I'm not saying the show is great or anything - I haven't seen more than a few clips - but calling that particular character a ripoff is kind of pushing it when dozens of other similar-looking skeletons have appeared all over media in the past. It's actually a pretty standard RPG character archytpye, which I know OK K.O.! is supposed to be an homage to. Papyrus himself is kind of a deconstruction of that character archetype, where he looks like one but then ends up having a completely different personality than you'd expect.'
Though, now that you mention it, Brandon does look a lot more like Burgerpants than I initially noticed...

I remember the concept for Skeleman was up with a bunch of other concept stuff around the time the pilot was up (which I think was just before Undertale/maybe around the time it started to exist?), dunno about Bearman tho, he might have taken inspiration from it.Β
What shows have taken inspiration from internet memes? Other than the UTTER shit PPG reboot, I don't think there's anything outside of cringy social media marketing.
I mean, shows like We Bare Bears and OK KO definitely do stuff like acknowledge that memes exist, but to my knowledge they don't really reference anything too specific outside of the idea of them.
I'm personally fine with shows doing stuff with the fact that concepts like memes and social media exist, because they.. well, do exist. Of course, someone making reference to an actual meme is the fucking worst and comes off at cluelessly misguided at best and absolutely embarrassing.
also srry if this is worded clunkily and there's obvious examples I'm missing, it's late where I am

There's a painting of young Enid that is a parody of a meme image
vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/laβ¦
vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/laβ¦
That's when I gave up.
It's the same reason I hated when Family Guy used the Trolololo song guy. Taking jokes from the internet is just lazy and people GOT PAID from ripping off memes because they're hip and cool.
They get paid for things I do on DeviantArt.
Can you imagine being an animation student for many years and when you finally get a professional degree, they make you animate this? Money and years of your life well spent.
If I had a show, I would NEVER use memes or allow writers to include them. I know I'm a guy who makes a lot of shitpost art, but I do them because THIS IS the place where I can do it. Professionals should be above me. Instead some of them are below me but get money anyway.
To me the only show that can get away with this is The Amazing World of Gumball because it's meant to be a time capsule of the 2010s.
