Description
This is my favorite scene of the '96 Steve Barron's movie "THE ADVENTURES OF PINOCCHIO": when the gaint whale was going to eat Pinocchio...In the film the whale is actually a man named Lorenzini (the film's version fo the character Mangiafuoco/Stromboli) who is the main villain throughout the movie. At first, he is a highly ambitious puppet-master who also happens to own Pleasure Island.
That park features a fountain with magical stream of water that will transform you into whatever animal you act like (boys who act like jack-asses are turned into donkeys).
Ironically, Lorenzini himself is knocked into the water by Pinocchio and undergoes his own transformation which turns him into a sort of Monstro.
It's a freaky transformation too XD

I know, it's Steve Barron. He also directed the music videos for "Take On Me" and "Billie Jean".
I wish Jim Henson was still alive and made the Pinocchio movie with Barron like they were planning to.

Both center on the father-and-son relationship. The main villain to both wanted to use boys for their own needs (one to raise as minions and the other for profit), made setups to attract them (games, music, treats), have a history with the main charachter's father (Master Splinter for murdering his master/owner and Geppeto for trying to misuse/destroy his puppets), and their desire for vengence becomes their downfall in the end. Leona's role as an ally reminds me of how April and Casey come to heroes' side.
In fact, the 1990 film Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles appears to pay tribute to Pleasure Island by showing an underground lair ran by the antagonistic Foot Clan, being a place of underage drinking, smoking, gambling, blasting offensive music and playing video games. The teens are lured there to be manipulated into becoming part of the Foot Clan. Foreshadowing The Adventures of Pinocchio 1996?

Lorenzini was meant to be an amalgam ofΒ Mangiafuoco, the Coachman, and the Terrible Dog-Fish (who Monstro was based off of). Played by the great Udo Kier, do you know where his name comes from?

Maybe it was too difficult to make. Back than the computer graphics weren't so adviced as today (Just look at Pepe, he look like a fucking videogame!) and probably making the Whale animatronic jump out from the water and see it full was difficult and it would have looked silly.
But I prefer how they did in the movie, it makes you wonder with charm how immense cold the whale be
