FINALLY, I have finished it!!!!
My application for Cycle 02!
I remember seeing the entries for Cycle 01 floating around and thinking that it was neat, and when I saw they were gonna have another tournament I just had to join!
Choosing my "champions" was difficult because I love so many of the characters in the Final Fantasy franchise, but I finally narrowed it down to three that I thought didn't get enough love, or that I thought would be a challenge for me to draw. I like to call it "Team Purple-ish" because, well, they've all sorta got bluish-purple color schemes. And blues and purples are my favorite colors to work with. :3
VOILA! Here they are!
1. Shadow (aka Clyde) from Final Fantasy VI
"He comes and goes like the wind, swearing allegiance to no one. Hidden behind his wintry gaze lies a face known to none who live..."
Being that FFVI is one of my absolute favorites in the series, it was a MUST that I pick a character from it. I have this thing for silent assassin types, and so Shadow was a natural choice. I also don't think I saw anyone apply for him last cycle?! WHY?! He's freaking awesome!
I also picked him because he has a really interesting back story; I won't spoil anyone, but DAMN is it depressing.
Reconciling his outfit was difficult; the Amano one, the sprite, and the CG version in the Final Fantasy Anthology are very different. I mostly stuck with the CG version, but I did incorporate elements from the Amano version as well.
Also, random headcanon: to explain why his face is BLUE in the anthology version, I say he paints his face blue to further add to his disguise.
2. Caius Ballad from Final Fantasy XIII-2
"A mysterious man with an ominous presence. His icy exterior makes it impossible for others to read him, let alone approach him."
Ok, this is probably the most "popular" character I chose, and I almost feel like it's a cop-out to pick him because of how ridiculously over-powered he is. But I really wanted to pick a villain and XIII-2 is fresh in my mind, and I just really wanted another shot at drawing (as I've come to call him) the "Purple smirky bastard." Also I kinda fan-girl over his voice. XD ANYWAYS, I really enjoyed his character for the fact that his motives are more than just "DESTROY STUFF BECAUSE I CAN." He has a really legitimate reason for his actions. I dig that kind of depth in a villain. And his outfit... my god, it might just kill me!
3. Leila from Final Fantasy II
"Trustin' pirates doesn't say much fer the space ye got between yer ears."
Finally, I had to choose a pirate character, because I just love pirate characters. And I absolutely adored Leila in Final Fantasy II because she's a BAMF AND a pirate, and I love females who can kick some butt. Anyways, I wanted to draw something Final Fantasy II because it's one of those games that doesn't get a lot of love. I also realized she's a lefty, but all the official art I've seen of her has her as a righty? I have no idea. XD
...AND that's it from me! I had fun preparing this, and I look forward to the challenges awaiting me in the competition!

Oh God, no clue who to root for you to get! ;^; I love Shadow and Caius is just a sexy BAMF (even though I have yet to play my collector's edition of XIII-2 XDD) and Leila's just badass-looking and a pirate to boot.
I love how it just seems to flow from over-all dark clothing TO dark clothing with purple hair TO all over purple. Probably not what you intended, but I love it all the same. 
Comments on your explanations for choosing each character are as follows:
Shadow--Yes! So awesome!! OWO Was talking with my friend about this tournament just yesterday and we were saying which three FF characters we'd choose from and Shadow was my first choice since he vetoed any main characters, and for VI he said that meant Terra AND Locke. ;^; Now I'm curious as to whether or not you'll have Interceptor help out at all in any of his fights. >3 Also OMG I LOVE YOUR HEADCANNON!! OWO I am subscribing to that headcannon RIGHT. NOW.

hagkjdhask I'm glad you like my entry! I have no clue who I'll actually get (although I have a feeling it'll be Shadow because no one's entered as him yet) but I think I'll be happy no matter who I get. :3
And WOW I totally didn't even intend for it to be arranged in the dark-to-purple scheme, but sometimes these decisions are made subconciously and they just turn out perfect.
As for Shadow, I almost drew Interceptor into the entry itself, but then I thought the little pic would be too crowded and scrapped the idea. He just might show up in the tournament though! 
AHHH you should really play XIII-2! I have the CE as well, and oh man the OST and artbook! <3 I was skeptical of the game at first, but after playing it for a bit, I loved it. My only gripe is the time travel thing, but eh, whatevs. If you liked XIII, then you should like XIII-2. :3
ALSO if you can, play FF2. It's not the most complex FF or most wow-worthy, but I enjoyed it.

I'll play XIII-2 once I beat XIII. XDD That's what I'm working on now. Honestly, the only reason I got XIII-2 CE was because I thought I was going to get Serah's GENJI BOW. Stupid Gamestop people in my town didn't tell me I'd NEED the damned PRO MEMBERSHIP CARD to get it. =___= So I got her Summoner Garb DLC for free instead. Oh well. I got myself some PSN cards and downloaded that shiznit instead!! OWO But about the soundtrack, OMG BEAUTIFUL. I love the son Unseen Intruder and it's Aggressive Mix. The lyrics are just so awesome. And Yeul's Theme! So sad!! ;^;
Back to VI real quick: MY SISTER AND I WANT A REMAKE ALREADY, DAGGNABBIT!!! OnO

Oooo you haven't finished XIII yet? WELL THEN GO DO IT! Most people give it a lot of flack, but I thought it was great.
Oh wow, you needed a Pro membership to get that? THAT IS STUPID. I bought my CE from Amazon after the game was released, so I didn't get any fancy DLC things. Just the artbook, purty case and OST, which is fine with me! But man, some of the costumes look sooo much fun (I really want the Black & White Mage outfits, they're so cute!). I still haven't played the Requiem of the Goddess DLC with Lightning yet, but I was saving that for when I go back, and play the game again with the Paradox Scope.
ANYWAYS YES. THE MUSIC IS GREAT.
AND I TOTALLY AGREE< I WOULD LOVE FOR A FREAKING REMAKE OF VI, NOT GONNA LIE. I'm actually replaying it right now on my PSP. :3

Nope. Mostly because I HATE the Paradigm System. DX So I'm rewatching through HassanAlHajry's walkthrough and swiping all of his paradigms for each chapter and boss fight. XDD It's taking a while cause he doesn't show when he's changing the paradigms, just cuts over them, so I gotta pay attention and pause at the right time when he's in the middle of a battle. XD
I saved up and bought two $50 PSN cards so I would have enough for all the DLC out at the time, but so far I've only bought the Genji Bow with it. XDD I also need to get me some Batman Arkham Asylum and City DLC. ._.

Ah I gotcha. The paradigm system is a lot different than anything else in the series, so I can understand. And ahhhhhh HassanAlHajry has some of the best quality game vids on YouTube (when XIII first came out, I didn't have a PS3 and thought I never would, so I watched his XIII walkthrough

Yeah ! And when we look at the CG render, there is this amount of amazing details... in 3D ! In fact CG Caius gives me headaches when I want to understand how the hell the outfit is designed and how it moves !

I won't lie, I freaking ADORE Lightning. She can kick some serious butt. But it'd be nice to see some variety in the fan-art... Although I should talk, because the only strictly "FFXIII" art I've done has her in it. XD

Picking characters... WAS SO HARD because I like so many of them, but I finally settled on these ones. I'm interested to see how the tournament goes for sure and what characters I'll end up drawing!
I had a lot of fun interpreting the characters designs and adapting them into my style for sure. (but omg if I get Caius, I really AM going to die

I liked Caius as a villian, too. But when I was going for some of the paradox endings, I was kinda like "WHY WON'T YOU DIE!?!?!?" XP
Even though I fought him a lot, at least he wasn't anything like Seymour. I hate Seymour... >:C Seymour was one villian that should've stayed dead after the 800th time. -_-

Totally understandable. Caius is a nasty one with that Paradox scope. But besides the battles with him, he's pretty interesting as a character and a villain.
OH GOD SEYMOUR THOUGH. I remember the first time I played FFX, when you fight him on Gagazet? OH GOD. Yeah that was fun. XDDDD
