iap, if you want to focus both, you have some configurations for do it. for example, dont use a lot zoom (small than 55mm) the background will be with more detail but the two objects will be focused, and other example is using the same zoom for take a background no focused, and to use slow speed for capture and, if it is not enough increase the ISO, with the canon 350D perfectly you can use 400 or 800 if you can, the digital noise is very poor
