The small but dense and arid homeworld of the Drak-An and the capital of their Imperium, An-Whart is one of the Groth's most developed and important worlds. It is located close to the start of the Norma Arm, spinwards of the voir.
Its host star is Hatu-Nec, a G type, medium age star with a somewhat elevated metallicity, which An-Whart orbits just within the habitable zone in 80 days (74 local days, with one day lasting 26 hours), orbited in turn very closely by one moon. Though it is fairy smaller than Earth, it is about 20% denser with 86% its mass and a slightly higher gravity. In addition to being fairy younger, the tidal stress exerted by its moon drives a very active geology with a large number of active volcanoes spewing large quantities of greenhouse gasses into the dense atmosphere. Combined with its close orbit to Hatu-Nec, its surface is mostly a hot, dry desert pocketed by long chains of mountains and a number of small, shallow seas. Because temperatures are so high, especially during the day, much of An-Whart is forced underground- the sapient reptilian drak-an are somewhat of an exception, being very much at home in high temperatures but starting their lives in large, underground burrows.
Over the millennia, many small settlements sprang up around the drak-an's primary social group, small bands of hunters called Ka-Atha, but few larger cities emerged. The ones that did, did so around the burrows, mostly to house their guardians. With an abundance of natural resources, the drak-an advance at a fairy steady rate but the lack of organization held them back; at least until the aonosian began uplifting them, after which the increasingly more unified drak-an began to industrialize their world at an increasingly faster pace.
Today, An-Whart is has a ten billion strong population and some of the most developed cities in known space, with a high standard of living and, surprisingly, very little pollution or environmental damage. Each of the large cities is built around two major centerpieces- first is the burrow, vast underground complexes where all the hatchlings live the first few years of their lives in perpetual struggle, and the arenas where daily gladiatorial combat is used to solve virtually every important issue, from electing high officials to the senate to executing criminals. Besides being a center of industry for the Groth, An-Whart is also a popular entertainment center, with its gladiatorial combat finding a following of hundreds of millions across the galaxy.
