Located in the Sagittarius Arm, directly corewards of the Orion Arm, Chittari is the large, arid homeworld of the Birnanthi and the Hegemony. Orbiting the aging G type star Raprodiil close to the inner edge of its habitable zone in 139 days (or just 6.3 local days due to a very long rotation of 524 hours), Chittari is in turn orbited by the small moon called Arayy.
Physically, Chittari is much larger than Earth in diameter, but is only about 70% as dense; though it has three times the mass, it has only 14% higher gravity. Even so, its atmosphere is fairy dense and mainly composed of helium, nitrogen and oxygen, with a significant concentration of nitrogen dioxide, meaning it has a very thin ozone layer as well as causing periodic acidic rain (forcing much of the surface life to evolve thick layers of protection, such as the sapient birnanthi's prominent bony armor). A slow rotation causes great differences of temperatures, with long hot, dry days and cold nights, as well as periodic sandstorms engulfing large swats of the planet.
Due to its low density crust and diminishing active geology, combined with acidic rain sweeping into the underground periodically, much of Chittari's underground is littered with vast, flooded cave systems which allow a fairy diverse biosphere to thrive- most of which have developed a very high resistance to acidic water. This in turn feeds a fairy thriving surface ecology, including the birnanthi, who constructed their civilization at the entrenches to these underground lakes for quick access to water.
