Höðr.There. Got my ~~fancy letters~~
Came up with this character over the summer, but...technically I didn't come up with him at all.
So while I was away over the summer, a friend of mine got really into talking about norse mythology with someone (mostly Loki myths, because he's the modern fav). And while she was going over the classic Baldur Dies myth, I was just thinking...
"Wow, Hodr's life kinda sucks".
Like really, imagine being blind, the sibling to someone universally considered the epitome of perfection, accidentally killing that sibling, then being killed for killing that sibling, and the guy who actually caused it gets away with it for years (again, depending on the version. I'm going with the Overly Sarcastic Productions telling , who if you haven't checked out yet WHY ARE YOU STILL HERE GO WATCH THEIR STUFF). So while I was away, I came up with my own very poorly thought out storyline based around all this.
I have a few other designs at this point been meaning to post them but haven't because whoops, namely Baldur, Loki, Thor, Freya (she isn't actually important to the story yet but I wanted to draw her sooo), and Odin (more of a w.i.p. for him though). The story takes place thousands of years after Baldur's death, but it's still pretty fresh in this guy's mind. I know I mentioned that he dies multiple times in this shortnotreally summary, but god dammit, if Marvel can completely change around mythological characters then so can I.
Anyways, yeah. Hodr. Sad, edgy, slightly traumatized Hodr. New-ish group of ocs. Why do I have so many ican'tdothis
I actually finished this drawing like a month ago but forgot to post it

Nicely done! (Personally, I like some of the modern twists on the myth, in which Baldr totally deserves killing, and Hodr is left out of it.)

Thank you! (I've thought about having something like that as I said, the main storyline for mine isn't too thought out , but I like the idea of him having to face all of the physiological impact of something so traumatic and life changing. Still, I'd be curious to see what other people have come up on this story ^^ One of the cool things about mythology and folklore is all the different ways it can be reinterpreted depending on what kind of story and theme you want to showcase.)

One of my favorite series is C. Gockel's "I Bring the Fire," which can be found both on Kindle and in print. It's a fascinating take on Loki as he interacts with modern-day humans, and includes flashbacks from his past.

Oh, sounds neat! Always love cool re-imaginings! ^^
I admit that I get a bit tired of the Loki hype sometimes (not that I don't like him, I just feel like I've been seeing him a lot lately...you know? lol), but it sounds like it could be interesting! Thanks for the recommendation!
