EDIT- New picture from Fanime before the masquerade! :] Edited my eyes because I had taken my contacts out due to discomfort. -_-''

I'd like to hear some feedback! COMMENTS > FAVS

The first 5 minutes is basically prepping. Application starts at 5:00

I did Zuko's scar for part of my stage-makeup final last semester and have had a few people ask me how I did it, so here's my tutorial!

TRANSCRIPT:
5:09
don't worry, i'm not saying anything crucial. i'm a girl. i just talk a lot.
5:19
get your latex!
5:21
this is the fun part! to speed the drying up, you can use a hair dryer.
5:27
latex smells bad, so close your eye so the fumes don't get to you.
5:36
get your tissue. take a single layer and tear irregular pieces from it, make sure there are no smooth/straight edges.
5:43
when the latex is still wet, crumple the tissue and press it into the latex. then put another layer of latex on to and repeat as many times as you need to.
5:56
be sure not to get the tissue too close to the sketched line. you'll need that space for blending.
6:04
if you plan on re-using the scar, be sure to put more layers of latex on your skin BEFORE you start putting the tissue on.
6:11
the thicker it is, the greater chance it will come off in one piece.
6:28
cover all the tissue with latex to be sure parts don't peel off when putting makeup on. don't forget the edges!
6:40
make sure it's completely dry before you start coloring.
6:52
start with the base color, of course.
7:21
add darker color closer to your eye.
7:33
apply lighter color on top of the ridges and darker color under them. this will make them stand out more.
7:56
use browns to blend the scar into your skintone.
8:21
not crucial, but use liquid eyeliner on top of your eyelid for a cat-eye look.
8:40
NOT SHOWN: use setting powder to prevent the makeup from smearing. i took this off five minutes later, so i didn't do it.
8:44
LASTLY: if you plan on reusing the scar, be SURE to powder BOTH sides once it's been removed. otherwise it will stick to itself and be no good.

This is by far the best realistic Zuko scar I've seen, and while still holding on to the original design! Fantastic!

Beautiful! So realistic yet so dynamic. WAY better than the stinkin' movie's scar, hahaha.

I'm designing a genderbent Zuko to wear for an upcoming con, so this tutorial totally saved my butt!

When applying the liquid latex, do you put something on your eye brows before covering it with liquid latex? A few years ago I applied the latex directly to the eye brows.. well they ripped off and never grew back so now I have retarded eye brows ..

Kimba616 In reply to VirusDoctor [2013-07-14 06:07:57 +0000 UTC]

I'm pretty sure I mentioned it in the video, but yes! You need some kind of lubricant or lotion that you need to completely coat your brows, side burn, or hairline with to prevent it from getting ripped off.

That is the most "frightening" fake scar i've ever seen!!!! I've seen real burn scars before and that makes me shudder. Love the eyes.

Great Tutorial! Before i try it out, can you still move around your eyebrow and that half of your face? I tend to overuse my expressions and i dont want to crack it or break it somehow. ahah thanks

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Kimba616 In reply to MathiasKaizer [2012-05-14 04:53:27 +0000 UTC]

Yes, latex is very flexible! The only thing I ever had issues with was sweat towards the end of the day.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MathiasKaizer In reply to Kimba616 [2012-05-14 05:06:14 +0000 UTC]

Great, thanks! Do you have any ideas to help out with the sweat that I could take in a bag to fix anything up? Incase anything goes terribly wrong and my scar drops off or something. Ahaha

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Kimba616 In reply to MathiasKaizer [2012-05-14 18:07:55 +0000 UTC]

I am a very sweaty person, it's kind of gross, but I've never had an issue of it fully falling off. It'll just start getting loose around the eyebrow and temple area. If anything, it helps get it off at the end of the day. LOL

CK-4 Bruise & Abrasions, TK-1 Cream Kit fair light-medium. I pretty much only use the TK-1 wheel now.
