EDIT- New picture from Fanime before the masquerade! :] Edited my eyes because I had taken my contacts out due to discomfort. -_-''

I'd like to hear some feedback! COMMENTS > FAVS

The first 5 minutes is basically prepping. Application starts at 5:00

I did Zuko's scar for part of my stage-makeup final last semester and have had a few people ask me how I did it, so here's my tutorial!

TRANSCRIPT:
5:09
don't worry, i'm not saying anything crucial. i'm a girl. i just talk a lot.
5:19
get your latex!
5:21
this is the fun part! to speed the drying up, you can use a hair dryer.
5:27
latex smells bad, so close your eye so the fumes don't get to you.
5:36
get your tissue. take a single layer and tear irregular pieces from it, make sure there are no smooth/straight edges.
5:43
when the latex is still wet, crumple the tissue and press it into the latex. then put another layer of latex on to and repeat as many times as you need to.
5:56
be sure not to get the tissue too close to the sketched line. you'll need that space for blending.
6:04
if you plan on re-using the scar, be sure to put more layers of latex on your skin BEFORE you start putting the tissue on.
6:11
the thicker it is, the greater chance it will come off in one piece.
6:28
cover all the tissue with latex to be sure parts don't peel off when putting makeup on. don't forget the edges!
6:40
make sure it's completely dry before you start coloring.
6:52
start with the base color, of course.
7:21
add darker color closer to your eye.
7:33
apply lighter color on top of the ridges and darker color under them. this will make them stand out more.
7:56
use browns to blend the scar into your skintone.
8:21
not crucial, but use liquid eyeliner on top of your eyelid for a cat-eye look.
8:40
NOT SHOWN: use setting powder to prevent the makeup from smearing. i took this off five minutes later, so i didn't do it.
8:44
LASTLY: if you plan on reusing the scar, be SURE to powder BOTH sides once it's been removed. otherwise it will stick to itself and be no good.

I think I'll try it out during AX. Or, maybe you can help me when I'm preparing john!

I wouldn't mind! :] Just make sure he's not allergic to latex. lol

UchihaSae In reply to Kimba616 [2011-06-17 00:41:47 +0000 UTC]

he's not. So what do we need? I think he still has liquid latex from last year. The method we used was gelatin and liquid latex. It worked okay, I guess, but nowhere near how yours turned out. Do you think we can incorporate those in somehow?

Kimba616 In reply to UchihaSae [2011-06-17 02:31:31 +0000 UTC]

Gelatin just takes a little while longer to set, and it comes off easily if you start sweating. All you would need is the latex and some tissue paper. I can help with my color wheels(since they're somewhat expensive), but that would be all. :]

So, where can I get the latex?

Any kind of costume/theater store should carry it. One of the most common brands in kryolan.

So, what type of latex is it? Is there a specific kind I need to get? Liquid? or what?

Kimba616 In reply to UchihaSae [2011-06-20 06:03:46 +0000 UTC]

Just liquid latex.

You know not many people can get Zuko's scar right. In fact I've seen some really terrible ones. But this....This is perfect. Haha they need to have a class for all the Zuko cosplayers to go to that you teach just so they can see your awesome makeup skills.

This is just plain out amazing.

Just pealed the latex part off. As for the makeup, just used makeup wipes. Soap and water works, too. :] It's really simple.

the fact that your scar looks better than Zuko's from the actual movie really says something about their failure and about your talent. THAT IT'S GOOD THAT IS. Seriously, i winced when i saw it! Awesome work!

they should've hired you to do Dev's make-up for the movie
I mean I understand the desire for it to not be 'too cartoony' but they still could've made it bigger and more noticable, it is supposed to be a dominate feature after all.
