Description First of this season's births is this lil' guy, a bundle of energy and limbs combined with a very, very sharp mind. Isn't he a sweetie? Hope he'll do Daddy (and Grandad) proud and continue the successful line of DD Bite The Bullet. I couldn't be more pleased with him.
If you don't know, Beretta is a well known make of gun, which was an obvious choice for a Bullet colt.

We always knew the Gold Bullet foal would be coloured something special, but seeing him in the flesh, his coat slick and dark with the birth fluids, was magical. He raised his sleepy eyes to his dam, blew a few bubbles, then rested a little. He was on the small side with an almost white mane and tail and big brown bedroom eyes, coupled with a magnificent palomino coat darker than his sire’s. Beretta (as we named him, after the gun brand) soon perked up after some gentle encouragement from Etta, and stood on jelly wobble legs beside her, his mane sticking up at odd angles and his huge eyes studying the surrounding humans. He took one shaky step towards his dam...

...And promptly fell into the straw.

Foals, eh? Ain’t they cute?

Over the next few days we watched him closely to check up on his progress. He was a remarkable young colt and doing fine, although he wasn’t very attached to Etta, and definitely not clingy in the slightest. We could see he was markedly intelligent, with eyes seemed to watch you wherever you went. It was unsettling, really. As if he was older than his spindly body said he was. Well, he was certainly more mentally mature, having grasped the idea that good behaviour equals pats, and mouthing equals a sharp one syllable word by day three.

Day four he took to communicating with the other mares by way of nickering politely and waiting for a response, which was duly provided, to his extreme delight. He didn’t shut up for most of the night, earning a few well aimed nips from Etta.

Day five came around and in the afternoon he hooked his legs over the stable door and stared at the bolt, willing it with all his heart to open, his big eyes all concentratey-like. It should be said that no-one, not even Etta, was allowed to disrupt the scientist at work, for fear of a high pitched whinny in the ear.

Day six, he opened the door himself and let himself out for an adventure. Couldn’t get away from mum quickly enough, could he? Well, no, actually, since Oh No! followed at a distance with an amused smirk on her pretty little face. That’s bad parenting for ya. The kids are running wild nowadays, parents just don’t care. The rest of the day was spent exploring and evading the grooms’ desperate attempts at catching him in gleeful joy, throwing himself round corners and under fences.

Day seven was spent quietly behind a stall with a bolt now protected from foal attack by the magical lead rope clip. Rett was not amused, and told us so by refusing to accept any sort of human contact unless they absolutely promised to pet him.

Day eight, he managed to unhook the clip, undo the bolt, and escape. AGAIN. God know how he did it. We gave in and turned him out to the pasture in defeat. I swear that little ‘whicker’ was more of a laugh.

Day nine was according to Rett, the best day of his life. He met a frog and wouldn’t leave the poor thing along for the best part of an hour...before he accidently stepped on it. He then became very quiet and went to stand beside his dam, head down by her tail. She snorted and stared at him in worry, then continued grazing for the rest of the day.
Day ten he forgot all about the day before’s mishap, and was running up and down the fence, following pigeons in the sky, head up, eyes bright. He fell over his own feet a couple of times, to his own confusion and Etta’s nervous amusement.

Well, he sure was something.

He was beginning to show every trait of an intellectual genius. Oh. Yay.

Age: 0 (2010)
Height: Projected 16.3hh
Color: Palomino
Eyes: Brown
Markings: Star, pink snip, two half-pasterns, two stockings.
Build: Large shouldered and fairly broad when seen from the front, Rett nethertheless manages to appear graceful and sleek from the side and when in motion.
Breed: Thoroughbred
Lineage: DD Gold Bullet (DD Bite the Bullet) x Oh No! (Big Brown)
Discipline: Flat Racing (foal)
Genes: ee/Aa/nCr
Temperament: We have never met such a engaged and fascinated horse. The world around him is something to be explored and marvelled at, its secrets opened to him. Rett has a bountiful thirst for knowledge and strives to investigate every little happening around the yard. He can often be found wandering free around the stud, (having let himself out) with little care for worrying the staff as he skips below a stallion's stable door or prances next to the colt's paddock. He loves life, that's for sure, and when he's entertained, he's the happiest horse you'll ever meet. Deprive him of this, however, and he's sullen, moody, and snappy.
For Stud/Lease: CLOSED, too young.
