Description This was a commissioned work for Gary, a member of my band. It is a post-apocalyptic kind of scene, where the forest fixes or takes back what was rightfully its own. Rectification means to make things right again. I was going to call it Birthright, but Rectification made more sense when I saw the definition. 'To set right.'

This took about 30 + hours to complete, is on an 11 by 14 sheet of stiff paper, all inked by hand.

Wow! Wonderful! Thank you for really taking the time to think about the piece itself. I'm really interested in spaces that are retaken by nature, especially when it becomes a push-pull relationship for survival. Thank you for your wonderful comment

You are most welcome, Kina!  Again, I thank you for sharing your excellent (albeit sobering) drawing.  I'll be on the lookout for more visions of the future from you!

When I was in highschool we had a homework to describe with words what would a post-apocalyptic world look like and I remember that I "drew" something like this.

Now back to the artwork, I love the way you drew it. And the concept behind it.
I think that partly coloring it would further emphasize the impact!

with respect,
nasko

Damn... Wow Kina... This is possibly your finest piece of art I've ever seen, m'dear. First and foremost, the details. I mean, wow... 30 hours? No kidding... It shows. This is amazing work on the little details. The trunk grain, the debris in the streets, the buildings... all of it. Just amazing. The shading is fabulous. You've put so much depth into this piece that the eye just needs to keep wandering to take it all in. I mean, wow... There's still things in this I haven't seen, even after gawking at it for 5 mins. It could be, like, a where's Waldo or something lol.

I just love this piece and cannot help but tally up another fave for you, m'dear. Awesome work, Kina.

I say, the idea's very fine, after all the pain manking cause to Nature, "rectifying" is pure justice.
The artwork itself is amazing, I'm always impressed by people having the patience to spend so many hours on a single work just to reach the goal they set. I'm a big fan of "inked by hand" drawings.

very very very good work

Superb artwork I really admire your pursue of details

Just a small if odd comment. I know this is artwork, and you can do any modifications to the real thing. I wanted to ask why you have drawn the trees a bit "deformed" while you drew the thorns "perfect". Is it to emphasize your point on how nature is "pissed off" and wants to take its right back?

Regardless, great work

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

kina In reply to jarofjuice [2005-01-06 14:21:40 +0000 UTC]

hm... I didn't have the intent to make the trees deformed and the thorns perfect. I just have a habit of making thorns look like that. and I love how in nature when trees grow around things, they take on any shape necessary. I guess thorns will be thorns no matter what is in their way, they wont take shape for anything, they kind of destroy all in their path, while trees tend to grow around or into anything. That's an interesting observation you made. thanks for the comment

This is great. It's well worth all the time and work you put into it. I especially like the out of scale flowers and the Venus flytrap opening and shutting its hinged leaves up in the upper area -- your grasp of natural forms and perspective is wonderful. Since it's a commission, I have to hope you've been paid well for all that time and that you've got prints. Did you sell print rights, or could you take slides and market this to a poster company? I think if you still have publication rights, it could be a very popular print either here or sold to a poster company.

It has medium and light tones in mass. In thumbnail it's almost impossible to tell what it's about because it fades together into a small intricate medium-tone pattern, but that works once I look at it close up. It almost seems deliberate, as if the point isn't to make it obvious across the room but to entice the viewer to walk up and start following this root or that trunk where it leads and branches, to look at the whole piece in all its details. Once I do, there are plenty of light and dark values. Way cool!

kina In reply to robertsloan2 [2005-01-06 14:28:00 +0000 UTC]

Thanks for the great comment The light/dark aspect of it was a bit of a problem for some peop.e they didn't like how the 'leaves' or tops of trees were pure white with little rendering, while everything else was so dark. They didn't understand that if I rendered those completely, all contrast in the piece would be lost. I'm glad you like the lights and darks.

This is now available for print on DA, and I have yet to make reproductions of the original for myself, and yes, i have many plans to enlarge it and sell lots of copies of it, possibly at my own exhibition, along with my [link] reclamation piece, along the similar theme of nature taking back various.. things.

anyway, thanks again for the insightful comment ^_^
