The sweet spring air was starting to give way to the hotter summer atmosphere once again. Foals everywhere celebrated the end of the school year, frolicking about to make precious childhood memories. And for everypony, young and old, there was a sense of anticipation for one of the biggest national holidays of the year…

The Festival of the Two Sisters.

Cheese Sandwich was particularly excited for the occasion, since he would be one of the ponies planning the festivities for the big day. He’d been throwing parties for the occasion here and there, way back when it was called the Summer Sun Celebration. He’d done this same routine every year since he settled down in Ponyville.

But that didn’t dull the thrill one bit. It always made him feel great to see the happy smiles on everypony’s faces, to make it all happen alongside his best friend Pinkie Pie. For him it was only the beginning of a great summer with the Festival, his darling Dashie’s birthaversary, and even more parties to come! This year was sure to be no different.

Right now there was a slight lull in his work; he still had places to be and supplies to deliver but he could pace himself a little more. So he strolled through the Canterlot gardens, humming some polka tunes to himself as he carried a box of assorted party gear on his back.

“I can’t wait, no, I can’t wait, when are they gonna open up that door—well, gosh.”

He stopped to mumble to himself.

“I almost forgot, I picked up the mail on the way here.”

He dug a stack of envelopes out of a pocket that seemed far too small for even one.

There was hardly any time to read anything, but he always had to be sure there weren’t any overdue bills and the like. Being a party pony and a dad of five came with other responsibilities, after all.

“Junk mail, bills for later, aw, a thank you card! Sans Smirk—I’ll write him back real soon! Another thank you card, junk mail—gosh, why’s there so much? And what’s this—“

He froze in his tracks once he read the envelope on the bottom. His name and address were written in an old-fashioned cursive hoofwriting that was all too familiar, and the names on the return address were a dead giveaway:

Mr. and Mrs. Mosaic Sandwich

Oh no. A shiver went through his spine, sending his whole load falling from his back. But this wasn’t the funny kind of shiver, not like his Cheesy Sense. This was dread.

Maybe it’s nothing, he tried to reassure himself as he tore the envelope open through his quivering teeth and hooves. He couldn’t save this for later, he had to get it over with now.

“Cheese Sandwich.”

The opening line read, with a stern period.

“If you should care, you must have heard that our business, Cheese Stacks, has been chosen as one of the caterers for the Festival of the Two Sisters…”

He read on, poring over the description of just how much money they had donated to the festival (a couple million of their nearly-billion-bit fortune) and how they were such generous sponsors, and so on, until the end:

“With all we are set to contribute, we must be there to oversee the preparations and attend the ceremony. As you live closest to the location and somehow stumbled your way into a connection with the Queen, you will provide our lodging for the weeks leading up to the holiday.”

Weeks!?

No!

Cheese dropped the letter like his heart dropped in his chest. He hadn’t thought about them in months, he didn’t want to think about them, especially not now, with everything going on… He couldn’t describe how this made him feel, he knew he was in for something not good at all.

He didn’t have to finish reading the letter to know it: His parents were coming. And there was nothing he could do to stop them.
