Also thank you everyone for giving me feathery themed adopts, they're super fun and you all know what I enjoy drawing bahaha

As for a small update:
We have enough money for the tickets! My mum and I are so thrilled to get her aunt here, and I plan to film the reaction when she lands on the plane! She will be coming to us at the end of June!
I'm going to keep the special up and accept just 1-3 more orders before closing just in case there's any extra costs that we haven't accounted for (just to be safe)
So if you want one, make sure to order quickly as I will be closing them soon!

Special 15$ Customs CLOSEDUpdate : We have saved enough for the tickets!! She will be coming down to us at the end of June for 2-2.5 weeks! Hopefully I can get video of the reunion, if not def pics! Update: 2 new bases added!! This is a pretty long post, and I don't expect everyone to read it so I'll put the commission info right here just in case you don't want to read my explanation for doing these cheap custom designs! Please note: I have purchased all of the bases and I've double checked all of the rules for each base creator and doing customs should be okay! I've placed the usernames for each base creator on their respective images!Price: 15$ USD eachSlots: unlimited atmForm: (can be noted or commented)Username:Base you want used: 1-8Theme:Colours:Fashion:You can be detailed or allow me creative freedoms! Either is fine! (I won't be doing any extreme detailed characters as the price is just covering the time it takes to make a general design!)Now for a reason as to why I'm having this special! This is a very personal thing that's happening in my life and it's very exciting for me, but mostly my mother (as a result, it's also heartbreaking (mild trigger warning if you're sensitive))! My mother went through something called "the sixties scoop". As I'm sure many of you have no idea what that is I'll give a very brief explanation here however ofc I can't add all of the details as this would be way too long, so I'll try to summarize. The sixties scoop: This was a practice in Canada that happened from the mid-late 1950's until the 1980's in Canada. Essentially what happened was the government was taking indigenous children from their families and placing them in foster care or put up for adoption. The goal for doing this was similar to what residential schools did in that the government wanted to take indigenous children and assimilate them into "European culture/religion" basically, remove their culture as an attempt at cultural genocide ie. turn indigenous children white. This particular practice happened to about 30,000 indigenous children from Canada and all were almost exclusively given to white middle class families. So that brings me to my mother. She's Anishinaabe, or better known as Ojibwa. She was 4 years old when the government took her from her family and gave her to a white, middle class French-Canadian family, and just weeks later was taken across country to British Columbia where she was placed into a Catholic school and was raised that way from that point on. Her upbringing wasn't the best, however I don't want to stray too far from this topic.About 10-13 years ago she started to research her family as something wasn't adding up in her head. She was 4 when taken, and by that point had obviously established who her family was by that point and thus she always had a void in her heart. It didn't take her long to find her family, however she was hesitant to reach out as she was always told she wasn't wanted and that's why she was adopted. She didn't reach out... not for a long time. About 4 years ago she learned that her biological mother had passed from cancer. This was hard to take as she was finally mustering the courage to reach out, but after her mother passed she felt like it was a bad time so she waited... 2 months later her biological father passed... He took his own life. Naturally this left that void open and will never be closed, however this gave her the courage to finally reach out to her biological family and I will always say it was her parents giving her the strength to reach out. Reaching out has changed her life completely. My mother no longer feels lost, she knows where she belongs and that was the best gift she could've given herself. We still live on the opposite side of the country so she's yet to meet her family in person, but there's a chance she can soon!My mom only has 1 directly related person in her family line that she is in contact with. She's in contact with her cousins/aunts/uncles etc, but there's only 1 aunt she has left alive who was there when everything happened. This aunt in particular was fighting with the court for the legal right to adopt her, but of course by that point my mother was already across the country with her new family. That didn't stop my aunt though. She wen't across the country into BC to try and find my mom. All she knew was that my mom was in BC with a french Canadian family and as one would've expected, the search was fruitless. Finally my mom reached out, and it was extremely emotional for everyone. They were all crying "we finally found her" and for weeks my mom was glued to the computer in constant contact with her family since. Now all this history has led to to why I'm saving for something special! My mom wants to save money to bring her aunt (the one who tried to adopt and find her) over to BC to stay with us for 2 weeks. We want to give it to her as a Birthday gift in May. We are saving for round trip tickets so we can finally meet her. Finally I want to put a few disclaimers here!1) I have full permission to post my mothers story here, in fact she encouraged it.2) I'm not doing this just to save the money for the plane fare, but any chance I can educate anyone (who's willing to read all of this) on what's happening in Canada that's being swept under the rug I will! Since this is such a personal thing for us, it's important for me to tell the story when I can as the only way we can make things better is by knowledge and education!!3) This isn't an emergency situation not by any means, but any help is greatly appreciated!! I will only be doing these customs until we can get the tickets! My entire family is pitching in as well as my biological family so I won't need to save up too much!!4) My mother as well as thousands of others are currently fighting in a settlement for the wrongdoing that Canada has faced, this wrongdoing has been acknowledged by the Canadian government and a settlement should be in place in the future. 5) My mothers adoptive parents (my grandparents) were left in the dark with all of this, they had no idea any of this happened and my Grandmother holds a lot a LOT of guilt for not knowing. They have been with my mom through all of this and are thrilled she found her biological familyFor anyone who read her story, thank you from the bottom of my heart. This was hard for me to write, and I broke down a couple of times. This is something I'm very passionate about and I wanted to share this for a while, but never felt like it was appropriate. I regret that, but I'm thankful to be able to tell my mothers story, and in a way my own as well. I'm happy to answer any questions if anyone has any! If I cannot answer them I'll ask my mother and she can tell me!♥♥♥♥♥
