I found the file again and here's the code it used:
mouse_do = setInterval(Achange,30)
//declaring the alpha changing function
function Achange() {
//set the square shape alpha value to change to
//the same value as you mouse Y axis position.
destroy._alpha = Math.round(_root._ymouse/800*100);
}
I can't remember exactly how it works (because I basically just pulled this from some random website 
but I'm pretty sure it just tells it to change the opacity of the "destroy" picture depending on the y position
of the mouse, and that "800" number is the height of the file.
Can't remember what the "30" is for, though.

I'm about 90% sure I built it in CS3, but in any case, I definitely used Actionscript 2 to make it.
