Edward Nygma is an extremely smart person who is addicted with riddles and solving puzzles. However, deciding to use his skills to further his wealth, Edward decided upon criminal activities. Despite the questionable past, Bruce Wayne hired Nygma to be his strategist and help push Wayne Enterprises to new levels. One of Edward's suggestions to help the company get publicity was to kill Bruce and regain public sympathy and prevent a power struggle. Nygma decided to help Falcone to get Wayne killed. Hence, shortly after the fall of the Calfone's Mob, Edward Nigma launched the riddle of the Sphinx upon Gotham, plummeting the entire city into an event known as the Blackout, controlling Gotham as The Riddler...
