The Riddler as he appears in my Batman universe.

Edward "Eddie" Nguyen was a computer security expert for the GCPD by day and a vigilante hacker by night. Growing disgusted by dirty cops and politicians he wasn't able to persecute, Eddie started down a path of extortion and murder.

Originally doing his own dirty work in a makeshift outfit, Eddie would rig traps and torture machines for his victims, forcing the "untouchable" to answer his riddles, play his games, and commit themselves to him to protect their dirty secrets lest they end up mutilated or murdered.

He claimed he was doing it for the little guy, since he'd always felt small next to the rich and the powerful. Perhaps it started that way, the ends justifying the means, but Eddie's sadism and arrogance grew unchecked when the power he gained as "The Riddler" meant he no longer had to be afraid.

Using his newfound wealth and his growing network of blackmail victims, Eddie had to risk capture less and less, growing more powerful from behind a screen, with Gotham City under the ever-present eye of The Riddler. He replaced his makeshift gear with a custom suit and a trick cane, hijacking broadcasts and websites while outfitted in his new guise, warning would-be victims and taunting the police.

Batman was the only one of Riddler's would-be victims to outsmart him time and time again, with Eddie's ego believing Batman was cheating somehow, and if he was protecting the evil elite that preyed on Gotham, he was just as guilty. His campaign of terror lasted months before The Batman finally brought Riddler to justice.
