Ferron are big-headed, streamlined pelagi that don't look very interesting. They might be social, but other pelagi are. Four metres long and pelagic, they're just medium-sized species for pelagys standards.
But, they're the first sophont species on this watery world. They're as intelligent as humans, and they're one of the most ruthless predators of the open seas, using their numbers, intelligence and general efficiency.
These sapient species are relatively, species-wise, very young. At only 5,000 years old, ferron emerged very recently, and thus are in "stone-age" level. The lack of fire underwater means that they are somewhat delayed in technological advancements, but some tribes have learnt how to use bioluminescent myzopods as a sort of light form.
Ferron hunt in ruthless packs, some having clubs in their tentacles, which have scaly pads on them which allows them to grasp tools. They then bite or batter or bash their prey ruthlessly on the head, and sometimes in their own amusement, bite or eat the prey while its still alive. What might be unethical or monstrous to us, probably might be alright in Ferron culture.
Commonly known as the "devils of the sea", ferron are very much like dolphins, unethical, horrifying and having an "okay" physical form, even though they have terrible behaviour. Ferron are known for stoning themselves over several types of bloatfish intentionally, even wrapping live slender, eel-like pelagi around their penis, or even gang-raping females without remorse.
Even though their horrifying characteristics, these pelagi have a long road ahead of them, one that might be complicating and long, or maybe even descend into extinction.
