Pristopisosaurus mysticus ("mystical saw-backed lizard") is a species of very large, carnivorous deepwater parareptiles. They are solitary and mostly benthic, living off the occasional corpse and exerting very little energy. A very uncommon and rare species, "Godzilla", as it is commonly called, are very rarely caught alive on camera.
It has a long jaw, with a large buccal cavity to suck prey easily down its throat. One of the species' most distinguishing traits are the small rows of spines on its back. It has primitive-form flippers with small claws; the back legs have one 'thumb', used for grasping on rocks whenever it doesn't need to swim using its long, fluked tail.
Most specimens we know of are dead specimens found on the shore, either crushed by their own weight, or washed ashore, attacked by other creatures. In its deep water environments, other megafaunal aquatic creatures are found, but most of a somewhat smaller scale. Godzilla was first discovered off the shore of Tokyo, seen by a group of tourists. It was popularised by Ishiro Honda's Godzilla film.
Godzilla doesn't lay eggs — they give birth to live young, using aplacental vivapirity, or utilising an egg retained within its oviduct. The babies are presumed to be around 5 metres long, and 2 tons.
