Actually it isn't. A lot of people who cosplay actually do appreciate when you take their photo, and they're usually glad to see themselves being appreciated

for staters a lot of people do this, we see a lot of people at conventions and the conversations are brief, and not everyone asks this at all either. so it's not uncommon for this to happen
