H.A.A.S.T.I.
Heavy Armour Assault Shock Troop Infantry

Prototype designed by Doctor Occulus head of Occulus Lab, a wholly owned subsidary of the Eggman Empire.

Doctor Occulus is one of Doctor Robotniks' many servants such as Grimer Wormtonuge who devlope weapon systems for the great Doctor himself.
Whilst Doctor Robotnik is a genius himself and is quite capable of forming, designing and building machines all by himself, he has nevertheless gained a number of likeminded servants who can design machines for him.
Afterall its easier to blame them when Sonic and the rest of the freedom fighters destroy them.

HAASTI is designed as a heavy assault mech charged with storming heavily fortified positions, where other badniks would be destoyed.
The Haasti is slow but purposeful in its movement, being able to advance rentlessly towards the enemy, taking out tanks and mechs of the G.U.N. and the freedom fighters whilst it's thick armour protects its chaos reactor.
Drawbacks include heavy power consumption from its power weaponary including plasma cannon and power fist. Meaning it requires re-charging after a protracted engagement. However it can advance over considerable distances up to 1000km before requiring a re-fuel stop.
In addition, because its slow speed, it can easily be out paced by those who can run fast, it would never be able to run after Sonic.
Under normal working conditions Haasti is quite slow to move and react, however under battlefield conditions it can draw upon its considerable power reserves to react with above normal flexes. Whilst in this mode it can charge quickly and use its bulk to bring down foes, however it is in this mode that its power is used up the most and if an engagement becomes drawn out, Haasti is in danger of shutting down due to over exercsion.
