It makes sense for Rodan to generate its own hot air to stay afloat, while also releasing excess heat (and as a secondary function, as a weapon, just as he did waganish Mothra).

Yep. Jet-Dan. Ro-Jet. Only makes sense given how he makes 0 attempt at getting up in the air yet he just.....ends up in the air. He was hovering before he attacked mothra as well, not a single flap, so definitely has to be jet propelled. You can see things leave his wings (debris, embers, dust, ash etc) which could really just be due to gravity or the fact that he is flying very fast, but I believe it's hot air coming out of his wings, makes sense for such a large creature.
