I headcanon Akida as straight.

Akida is the father of Nuka. He was Zira’s first mate, and they had a son, Nuka.

Neither Akida nor Zira wanted a cub together, so Nuka was an accident and was therefore neglected by them.

But Scar did want an heir, and he promised them Zira's next cub would be his heir. Apart from that, since Nuka wasn't exactly healthy, it was obvious Akida and Zira didn't make healthy cubs together, so Scar had second thoughts.

Then Zira met Azaan. Cubs were always the focus for Azaan. As mentioned before, Azaan would witness firsthand how badly Nuka was being treated, and his desire to become a father made him more determined to raise him as his own. Then, Zira announced her pregnancy. As a result, jealousy consumed Akida. One thing led to another, and they fought. Akida gained his facial scars from the fight with Azaan. Later, Zira would give birth to twins, Kovu and Vitani, and Azaan vanished before they were born.

Akida and Zira were very much in love for a short while. However, Akida vanished during the battle when he saw Scar was losing. Afterwards, Zira saw Scar as the one who didn't abandon her and, therefore, became obsessed with him.

In terms of his personality, he’s a bit of a self-centered dick with a ruthless and intimidating nature. Who knows whether he’ll cross paths with the Pride Lands once again?
