I like basilisks. Their Criteria-for-birth in folklore are so oddly specific; a snake slithering throung three moving wheels in succession, an egg laid by a rooster and incubated by a toad, etc... It's always facinated me how these myths diverged in folklore, but how certain odd details were always the same.
