"The salmander is a cold animal. It can live unharmed in a fire, and its coldness will extinguish the hottest flames. If it enters hot water, the water will become cold." - From Medieval Bestiary

Salamander was an extremely cold, frost breathing animal.
I wonder wher could they live, probably in some regions with high tectonic activity like Iceland (geysers, HOT water etc..) Because of that specialisation i gave it pretty primitive appearance like hynerpeton or ichthyostega.
