Description
Voormis are a race of primitive, cavemen said to be hybrids of humans and soe sort of Great Old Ones. They look pretty much like ape-men but are described with three toed feet ( also gave them three-fingered, reptilian hands for consistency )
"Also, much was said regarding the genesis of the Voormis, who were popularly believed to be the offspring of women and certain atrocious creatures that had come forth in primal days from a tenebrous cavern-world in the bowels of Voormithadreth. Somewhere beneath that four-coned mountain, the sluggish and baleful god Tsathoggua, who had come down from Saturn in years immediately foIlowing the Earth's creation, was fabled to reside; and during the rite of worship at his black altars, the devotees were always careful to orient themselves toward Voormithadreth."
"They stood only half erect, and their shaggy heads were about his thighs and hips, snarling and snapping like dogs; and they clawed him with hook-shaped nails that caught and held in the links of his armor."

One voormi had more Great Old One ancestry than the others, on his father's side. The leader of a band of unusually murderous voormi, Knygathin Zhaum, rumored to have fantastic shape-shifting power, he steadily lost all human form from the stress of his repeated decapitations. (from Clark Ashton Smith's geneology of the Great Old Ones, and from THE TESTAMENT OF ATHAMMAUS which chronicles why the city of Commoriom was abandoned.)

I love voormis. I think they are, along with gnophkeh and tcho-tcho, an undervalued race. Loincloth to avoid mature censorship?Β

I think they were mentioned to use some rudimentary clothing in the story about the executioner...

In Polish it's impossible. There is like one short collection only published... But there is an awesome English edition called Collected Fantasies of CLark Ashton Smith, five volumes gathering all of his fantasy writings.

Do you know the difference between a donkey and a politician?
You can get useful work out of a donkey.

I finally got around to reading this story a few months back. I liked it quite a bit, it felt like a cross between Edgar Rice Burroughs and the jabberwocky. I also just noticed that the Voormis are described similarly to the Yeti from the Carnivores games. Both are large ape like creatures with reptilian talons in place of hands and feet and both are said to be the most dangerous creature to hunt in their respective worlds.

Ah, true, I remember spending many hours in this game.
Only the Voormis are quite small, lesser than a human.
