My entry for the Browbird MYO contest!! He has more things to come but I wanted to put his main ref on it's own. <3Was referred to the contest by Chitterlings

Backpack:
- A scratched up compass. Made of grey/black metal with a few dents and scratches in it from years of use.
- Travel notebook. He keeps photos, comments, notes and other various bits and pieces he's glued onto the pages of different places he's visited, often accompanied by notes and scribblings about the things he's found in those places. Even though it looks like a mess to anyone but him it actually holds meticulous records of prey species, native predators, plants and herbs, and material deposits.
- Tablet used for local information and weather updates, as well as keeping a large record of his contacts and friends, merchant ports available, what goods are required or sought after at those ports and helping him keep an inventory of everything he's collected on his ship. Not to mention several digital books, a very large collection of music and a couple of games.
- A small medkit. Used only for emergencies and holding only very simple medical supplies, he doesn't tend to use it on himself or Orri, preferring to use his magic for that, but the medkit comes in handy should he need to help anyone who's uncomfortable with the use of healing magic. It always has a bunch of smiley face stickers in it.
- A bright green multi-tool. It seems to have almost every conceivable tool piece on it and has never let him down when he needs to make repairs and things on the fly. It has a dark teal coloured smiley face painted onto it.
- A box filled with fruit, usually mostly strawberries.
- A few packs of snack bars are always stuffed in there somewhere.
- Jerky treats for Orri.
- A handheld translation device so he can communicate with people speaking almost any language.
Personality:
- Friendly - Bryne enjoys the company of others, no matter what their species, and loves to make new friends wherever he goes. Only a few individuals he classes as true, close friends, and he holds them dear, but he is welcoming of anyone and everyone and will enjoy every second of spending time with another.
- Enthusiastic - Life is full of so much wonder and adventure it sometimes feels like too much, not that that has ever stopped Bryne from diving into everything head first. While his true loves in life are what get him the most fired up, Bryne will take interest in almost anything new and revels in all the different things the world has to offer. As long as it doesn't involve stealing or hurting someone anyway.
- Moralistic - Although he will always hold judgement on anyone for anything they have done, Bryne cannot abide causing harm to others or stealing from anyone. Enough that should he discover someone he considered a friend or family member were engaging in such things willingly and expressed no remorse for their actions he will sever all ties to them, no matter how close to him they may have been.
- Passionate - In everything he invests himself in, Bryne commits himself to. Whether it's work, a hobby or another person he will dedicate himself to it body and soul. Often a positive trait but it's been known to get him into trouble when he's been too eager about something and annoyed someone. He's always apologetic when that happens but it doesn't seem to stop it from happening again.
- Empathetic - The emotions and well-being of those around him, whether he knows them personally or not, are something he will always take seriously. If anyone needs a shoulder to cry on or a helping hand Bryne will be the first to offer whatever he can to aid them. His tendency to do this has landed him in a few scrapes in the past, having run afoul of thieves and bandits who use a ruse to lure in victims, but he's managed to escape any such encounters safely so far and chalks them up to a learning experience.
- Naive - Despite his love of learning and how well he was trained in his craft his young age still shows. Bryne still has a lot of learning to do when it comes to knowing his own limits and has often landed himself in hot water when he's barreled into a situation without thinking. Luckily for him his talent for making friends and his large bodyguard in the form of Orri has kept him safe for the most part but he'd do well to learn a thing or two.
- Emotional - He may be relatively in touch with his own feelings and good at recognizing the emotional state of others around him but keeping his own emotions in check is something he has not yet mastered. Something that is not much of a problem when he's his usual happy and excitable self becomes a hindrance when something goes wrong. Expressing his own emotions, when they're not what he considers his default of happy and outgoing, is something Bryne struggles with and he would much rather avoid or internalize any difficult emotions.
History:
Early life:
Bryne was born to a flock that lived in New Centuary, close to Haven Harbor. Most of the family were merchants or travellers, many of them away for weeks at a time on their adventures and some who rarely visited home at all. Bryne was always fascinated by the tales told of the different places they visited and when he was old enough he accompanied others when they went off to collect new supplies and he learnt all his survival, hunting and scavenging techniques from his family.
He became adept at scrounging out anything remotely valuable from anywhere, and he's never minded getting himself dirty to dig out something good - whether it be filthy muddy terrain, dust bowls or even dumpsters - if there's something worth having there he will go find it.
The line has always been drawn at theft though - Neither Bryne nor his family would ever steal to acquire any of their scavenged goods and to do so would likely mean disowning from the flock. As far as Bryne is concerned, no treasures are worth causing the hurt stealing it would bring.
Bryne worked with his family, either gathering or helping to sell things, until he'd saved up enough to buy himself a ship. His family pitched in to buy a couple of upgrades to the hardware they felt he could use as a gift, it also earned a smiley face he couldn't resist spray painting onto it, and he began to go on his own trips. His easy-going attitude and friendly nature helped him make many friends on his travels, and it was on one of those trips that he came into ownership of Orri.
Orri was a Xeno mount that had been bred by an exotic mounts breeder but she was proving difficult to train and none of her prospective owners were willing to put in the time needed for her. Bryne loved her the second he laid eyes on her, and got a very good deal on buying her thanks to her difficult nature. Training her was a challenge, but Bryne persevered and the two of them formed a strong bond, even though he's still not figured out how to convince her that baths are a good thing.
Current:
Bryne now works full time as a traveller, hunter and scavenger, trading his collected wares at numerous markets across the vast galaxies. He will go back and visit home every now and then, usually just to catch up with his family and leave a memento of his visit so everyone who was busy elsewhere would know he'd been back.
Bryne lives out of his ship mostly, with it having a comfortable living space he sees little reason to try and maintain properties in various places, he and Orri live happily in the ship - which was dubbed "Star Sprinter".
Bryne's lifestyle doesn't lend itself to keeping in constant contact with others but he always finds time to go and spend with his friends.
His closest friends are a group that live on a terran planet where he parks his ship in the grounds of a mechanics garage owned by his friend Scrael , a bearded vulture. Bryne has formed a good friendship with others in the same town, often through Scrael but some he made while exploring the area.
His other closest friend, and the nearest to what he considers a best friend is Rashka , a fellow browbird who travels as a storyteller. Bryne loves to listen to Rashka's stories, it doesn't matter to him whether they're new ones or ones he's heard before.
Bryne loves to learn and will often either enroll himself in stand-alone classes or take lessons from friends and acquaintances. He doesn't like to hang around in one place for too long so full length learning courses is usually out of the question for him, so he will instead make several trips to libraries to learn from books.
His love of books and learning has granted him a begruding entry to the Infinite Library. Many there were not especially approving of his acceptance but they couldn't deny his skill in finding texts and books to add. Despite this Bryne doesn't like to label himself a Librarian too much, he feels more comfortable being referred to as simply a merchant or explorer, as he does not dedicate his time to hunting down texts exclusively.
Likes:
- Strawberries. Bryne's favourite food is fruit of any kind but he has a particular love of strawberries.
- Bubble baths. There's nothing better than a nice hot bath filled with great smelling bath products, as far as Bryne is concerned. He prefers fruit-scented products but he also appreciates floral scents.
- Rubber ducks, for the express purpose of using in said bubble baths. He has a small collection of different coloured ducks.
- Being outside. The weather doesn't matter to Bryne, he just loves to be out exploring, although there is a particular comfort to curling up in his ship with Orri on bad weather days.
- Fruit ciders. He can't drink more than a half-pint but he loves the different fruit flavours. Naturally any with strawberry in are his favourites.
- Books and stories, of any kind, fictional or non-fiction. He adores reading or hearing stories, even simply learning books are something he takes immense joy in.
- Geology! He really loves rocks and minerals, he'll often get himself covered in dirt looking for cool rocks to just study or occasionally collect if he gets attached.
- Being cooped up in buildings for too long. He doesn't like not being able to leave whenever he wants.
- Thieves, and those who harm others. He can't stand it.
- Fried food. He always says fried things leave a strange after-taste and he's not a fan of the greasy nature of fried foods.
- Coffee, he's never been the biggest fan of bitter things. However he can enjoy a flavoured latte.
Spells:
- Healing touch - Using the magic in nature to heal wounds, and locate plants that are the most beneficial for natural healing.
- Plant construct - Manipulating plants and trees to form a large, tanky being to help protect against attackers and provide an intimidating deterrent, as well as a moving defensive wall to hide behind.
- Leaf familiar - Conjuring a small animal-like familiar in the palm of his hands made of leaves, usually used simply for providing amusement to others.
- Twisting vines - More of an illusion than anything else, he makes vines or other plants appear as if they're moving to block a path or conceal tracks.
- Root sense - Pulling on the magic of nature to sense nearby plants of a certain kind, for example a healing herb. This ability only works within a few foot radius of where he is.
