Description
My entry for PuppyTypewriter 's contest, Design A Character CONTEST! , under the "Brawn" category.Name: ADA (Adaptable Defense Android) Interceptor Model, or simply "Ada"
Species: Android
Occupation: Rogue DefenseBot modified for assassination objectives
Personality: glitchy, unstable, polite, calm
Background:
The ADA was designed as a DefenseBot whose main purpose was to intercept attacks and were frequently employed by high-profile personalities to defend against assassination attempts. It did its job very well with its lightweight frame and incredible speed. One of its features included ease of reprogramming so that an ADA would remain multi-functional when it was not on active duty. However, as a result it was very susceptible to hackers. A virus was leaked which rendered most ADA models useless, and ADA line was discontinued. The majority of ADA models were destroyed in-action or disabled by hackers.
The remaining few functional ADA models were either discarded, salvaged, or heavily modified and reprogrammed. Manually reprogrammed ADAs were imperfect, but they were able to function well and were harder to hack. A working ADA was rare, but very effective.
This particular ADA, simply going by the name of "Ada," has been reprogrammed and modified by an unknown (unspecified?) user. She is incredibly self-sufficient (even going to the extent of modifying herself, if necessary) and is driven by a secret (or not-so-secret?) directive.
Features and Abilities:
A core module of an ADA is its sensors. A large part of its initial success was due to its superb ability to detect threats and respond to them accordingly. While its ability to detect threats by their harmful nature (such as bullets, blades, weapons) is very accurate, its ability to designate subjects (snipers, assassins) is unreliable, and requires a spotter to scope out such threats. Since the process of identifying threats is mostly visual, hidden weapons are effective against ADAs.
A prominent feature of the ADA line was the fact that it was extremely modular. Each ADA has a set of hardpoints that can be modified by its user. Typically, an ADA would come with thrusters, armor, and/or cosmetic pieces attached to these hardpoints, but users soon found merit in swapping these for more firepower as ADAs began to deviate from their original function. In that sense, it is possible (but probably not practical) to equip five guns on an ADA's head or give an ADA eight arms using these hardpoints. Even without equipping any weaponry, an unarmed ADA was still formidable.
An ADA is capable of firing a short-range energy pulse from any connected hardpoint (or thruster), allowing it to pulse-jump from the recoil. Needless to say, firing one of these pulses at point blank can cause considerable damage on the receiving end. Since pulse-jumping is the ADA's main form of locomotion, it was a common occurrence for an ADA to cause massive amounts of collateral damage simply from moving around.
The sheer number of these hardpoint/thrusters combined with its flexibility (all of its joints are ball joints) give the ADA supreme omni-directional air control, allowing it to evade (or intercept) in-air projectiles on a dime.
An ADA's smile may look innocent, but those are fangs in a literal sense. ADAs can bite if they really need to, but that's probably their last line of defense.
This particular ADA is equipped only with thrusters, but she fights with them incredibly well. Pulse-boosted kicks are her signature moves. Her preferred style involves closing the distance with the enemy by pulsing-in, landing a few hits, then creating distance by pulsing-out. Disengaging by pulsing-out accounts for a large portion of her damage potential, as the pulses themselves pack a punch.
She comes equipped with two blue cosmetic hair attachments that don't do anything in particular. They can be swapped for more armor or more guns, but the hair seems to hold sentimental value.

A different approach to the brawn, interesting! I'll add it to the entries.
