I know what you mean and I'd definitely think the same way - if Dragonite would look differently xD Dragonite just looks so manly... Maybe because it lost all it's grace and just went full derp. It's still my favourite pokemon though <3

That's what I thought too. Β Before they gave (almost) all Pokemon genders, I'd guess them based on how they looked, and I couldn't for the life of me figure out how a girl Dragonair could evolve into a boy Dragonite. Β Same with Staryu and Starmie.Β

My thoughts exactly. If at least the colourscheme would be right. But... Blue, blue.... Orange...? It's really hard to make an Dratiny-Gijinka-OC and let her develope into her final stage << I don't want to change the blue hair, but it doesn't fit the overall orange clothing.

Is it true that they were originally going to have Dragonair evolve into Gyarados (and Magikarp into Dragonite) but it was changed at the last minute?

I can't say for sure, but to be honest I doubt this. Despite the blue coat and a snakelike appearance the two have nothing in common. Plus, since magikarp is based on this japanese tale of a karp swimming upwarts a waterfall and magically transformed into a japanese dragon (which gyarados looks like) it's more likely they changed dragonite's color scheme last minute, but not the whole end evolution.

In the end it doesn't matter ^^ I love this pokemon and it's evolutions. Only the 3D model of Dragonite in xy bothers me. The mouth x.x The only pokemon that comes very close to Dragonite is Aurorus
