My third and final entry for the [Pokemon 2022 Illustration Contest].

This one was definitely an intentional attempt to push the boundaries of my comfort zone. Backgrounds (and environmental composition in general) are a real weak point of mine, especially when it comes to balancing a palette across depth and atmosphere.

I don't dislike drawing backgrounds, I just don't often have reason to. I'm actively seeking to improve on that front though, because environments are cool and I would love to be able to make more atmospheric illustrations like this one!

Unfortunately none of my entries were chosen as finalists for the contest, but I'm still really proud of what I made and thankful for the excuse to challenge myself! Hopefully there will be more Pokemon illustration contests in the future, and more opportunities to enter!
