Description
Edit: The contest results are in, and sadly, my picture didn't even get a place. Well, I guess that means I have to work my butt off even more next time!Hey.
Guess what.
I FINISHED IT!
I worked on this for over a month and it's finally, finally done!
It was so hard to get everything how I wanted it, but I'm proud of it now and it's ready to be submitted to the contest! Thank you, Da-Real-Kirby-Club , for inspiring me to draw something this big and detailed! And I hope I win!
Here's the Chrome theme with this drawing: www.mychrometheme.com/t/u6lr7v…
Artist's notes:
Checker Knights is my favorite area because I love the music for it -- it's from the anime, starting in episode 54 (I think) in which Mirror Kirby appears for the first time. I absolutely love Mirror Kirby, and even though that ability isn't even in KAR, I like the connection with Checker Knights. Also, the checkerboard patterns remind me of Orbservors, from Kirby Tilt 'n' Tumble - another extremely underrated game. So anyway, that's why I started with it, and put it at the top of the picture. I love the stars and how the ramp is transparent, and I had lots of fun with it.
I love ice levels, and Frozen Hillside is no exception. It looks a lot like Rainbow Resort, and I'm sure that's because Frozen Hillside is part of Rainbow Resort. Ice levels almost always have great music, and Rainbow Resort was one of the first Kirby songs I heard -- and also the first to become my favorite. Frozen Hillside also has excellent music, and the lighting is so beautiful. I love how I did this section and besides maybe making the grind rails look more like they do in the game, I wouldn't have drawn this any other way.
I didn't draw all the areas in order, but I'll still talk about them in order. Magma Flows was easier to draw than I expected it to be, but it was quite tedious. I made the lava rocks by drawing a gray road, then using red and light gray with the Airbrush tool to shade it to look like rocks. Then I erased the parts of the road that weren't part of a rock and made the lava river. It was hard to make the lava-falls look like they were flowing into the river, but I love how it came out. Also, I think the sky there looks like the Null Void. (No, I don't watch Ben 10, I played FusionFall before they stupidly decided to cancel it for the dumb spin-off.)
I started Sky Sands one day, finished the next day, decided it didn't look complete, and added to it. I love the results. The music for Sky Sands has become my favorite Kirby song, even surpassing Prison of Beauty, which is quite impressive. So I had to make the area look good in my drawing, too. But sadly, despite liking it so much, I really don't have much to say about it, besides that I used textures a lot.
As for Beanstalk Park, I was reminded of the Dreamstalk and felt the need to add Taranza in there. I actually started it early on in the making of my drawing, but put it off until I was about halfway done. I used a layer mask for the vine platform -- I drew the colors, then made the layer mask so I could make the vines the only place where the color will show. I think I could've made the beanstalk more 3D, but besides that I love it.
Celestial Valley was by far the most difficult area to draw. I tried to make it look natural, but I couldn't really do it. I'm going to have to work on that at some point.
I kinda like the feel of Fantasy Meadows. Just like the course itself, my drawing is simple. However, something tells me it's kinda too simple.
Machine Passage was quite fun. It didn't have much of a challenge, but I did have a bit of trouble making the perspective work and I like how it turned out. Fun fact: the gray actually has a blue tint to it.
And... Nebula Belt. As you might know from my WIP, click here! , I redid it. The first one didn't look that great, with thick lines and lots of separation between the floor and the walls and ceiling, but I love the second one. I did it by making straight lines, then using the Free Deform tool to give it perspective. My little brother watched when I did that, and he thought it was funny how far out of the section the lines were.
I like the lineart style I used for Kirby and the Dragoon. It was my first time doing it, and for a first try, it came out really well. I learned the technique from Torkirby . I used a layer mask to make colored lines, and since I have a hard time with lineart, I'm especially proud of it because of that.

Nice artwork. I've never played Kirby Air Ride before, but I still love this drawing. Keep up the good work.

Thanks! It was a bit hard for me to get, haha - but I asked for it for Hanukkah so I didn't have to pay for it. >:D
Well, glad you like this old art, anyway~ I've got a bunch of newer, better stuff, but I was proud of this pic at the time and that's what matters, I guess.

Aww yeah! Thank you!
This is pretty old, but it is fairly good for my older arts.

Kirby Air Ride isn't an outstanding game, but still a very enjoyable one, a lot better than what "professional" reviewers might say.
Sky Sands has one of my favorite themes in the game, and usually I prefer ice-themed music as well. I especially love those trumpets towards the end of the loop.

It's my favorite game. People say it's too simple, but that simplicity is what makes it so easy to learn, and that makes it more fun.
Yep. I love ice songs too~ in Kirby games, they're so good, especially in the more recent games. Yeah, that part's great~ the only problem is that it makes the song more complicated, which makes it harder to remix.
Thanks for the comment~

You're welcome. And that "too simple" argument is pure bullshit, in my opinion. I'd rather learn to play in a few days than spend years and years to master ultra-complex and gimmicky controls. Besides, at least a few of the vehicles require some skill to use correctly, like the Formula Star, my favorite. Besides, you can play with just one hand! What's not to like about that?...

Agreed.
My favorites are the Shadow Star, Swerve Star, Winged Star, and Dragoon.

I prefer the Hydra over the Dragoon, just because of its sheer power and speed, and its awesome engine sound.

I like the Dragoon because it can glide so awesomely~ I guess I like that because I wish I could fly...

I think that's why most people prefer the Dragoon. XD

The winners were decided by vote, so I think it was biased. I didn't win because people wanted their friends to win. Thanks! Haha, I actually made a whole group for the game, because it's so underrated and great!

Thank you!! Yeah, I thought the cameo would be fitting~ it's Beanstalk Park, and there's the Dreamstalk in Kirby Triple Deluxe...
Just keep practicing, you'll get it in time~ Talent means almost nothing, it's effort that counts. ^^
