Description Here are some fun 50's style diner designs I did up, for:www.facebook.com/crazykitcheng… . I'm surprised by the success of this game. It's now got over 41k "likes" on Facebook. If you haven't played it yet, give it a shot. It's a highly addictive puzzle style game.

Is this game like Diner Dash? I remember playing it when I was younger.

Hmm, I'm not really familiar with that one. So many games these days, it's tough to keep track.

Nevermind, haha. I just check the facebook page and it wasn't.
Did you do all the art for this game or just the ones you've shown on dA?

Not all of it - a pretty good amount though. Much of it I haven't uploaded yet.

Awesome! It's great that you're involved in something like this, must be fun.Β

Thanks! This was pretty much all of last year. Not really involved with it at the moment, however. But, it's always fun to see your work out there and having people interact with it to some extent.

Oh, I see. Yeah, I could imagine.
People say doing art for a career won't get you anywhere but every day I see things like this, and it reminds me that there are actually so many possibilities.Β

Soooooooo many. But, I hate when people say that. Mostly it's just naysayers that don't understand what they're talking about. But yeah, I'm still just trying to find my way like everybody else. Always hoping for that next "big break". Just gotta keep practicing.

Definitely. They've never been in an artist's position. Like, have they never enjoyed a good animated film, video game, or anything? Artists are the ones who make those things possible.
The journey is long with many setbacks, but I kind of like it. You learn many things along the way. And the thought of reaching that level you want to be at is enough to keep me going.

Yeah, it's pretty annoying, but most people don't even stop to consider (or know) how much work is in involved with those projects - not mention, how many people are involved. They just see what's in front of em...

But yeah, there's for sure advantages. Like having a hobby/passion, that's also a job, is pretty neat. If you're freelancing, then I kinda liken it to being an actor. Just kinda roaming around from gig to gig, and never really sure what's down the road. But yeah, kinda makes it's fun and exciting.Β  And you're spending your time practicing and getting better at your craft, something that you'll just keep "leveling up" on for the rest of your life.

Most people don't get it, but that's their own fault.

Exactly!
People who think artists price their work too high don't understand the process of creating it, and how much effort, time and stress is involved.
Artists need to make a living just like everyone else. I agree with what you said - having a job that you love is something not many people get to experience. It's special, really.Β
I also think having a hobby that you're devoted to is a great thing. For me personally, it helps me cope with the various problems you might encounter in life, whether it be mental health issues like depression, or stress.

Right! It's like people always wanna haggle with artists. Like, if you hired someone to come over and fix your sink, then that person would have their rate. You don't go, "Well, how about I give you half that." But there's this weird stigma about trying to take advantage of artists.

You should check out Stephen Silver if you don't already know: www.youtube.com/channel/UCvNO8… I'm always learning from this guy!

But I do know what you mean. Like sometimes you get that shitty day, or week, or whatever and you can just escape into your artwork. Everything will just fade away and you lose yourself in the page. I can't seem to find that in really anything else, and I've been looking!

Ahh this channel looks interesting and useful!
Thank you, I'll be sure to check it out in a bit.

It's that feeling of "nothing else matters right now" that is so precious. You can forget about anything that's worrying you
at that particular time. Other times though, there are days on end where I feel like I forgot how to draw, or just have no motivation
or inspiration whatsoever.

KIRKparrish In reply to Kerlasia [2015-01-15 02:00:48 +0000 UTC]

Oh, I feel like I have to reteach myself how to draw almost everyday. The constant struggle. But, when you break through and get that one badass piece, then it's all worth it. Plus you gotta be your own worst critic, right? But yeah, lack of motivation can be a killer sometimes, especially when you have a tight deadline but just can't will yourself to get there. That's when it's kinda shitty.

That's honestly the worst. I'm working on a commission right now which is not stressing me out nearly as much fortunately, but when I did around 10 requests for christmas and another commission before this one, it was really taking a toll on me. I realized I'm really not fit for freelance work, at least not right now.Β

KIRKparrish In reply to Kerlasia [2015-01-15 02:50:05 +0000 UTC]

Haha. Yeah it's art, but it can sometimes be tough to draw something that you don't necessarily wanna draw. I think we all go through it from time to time. Key is to put something that's uniquely "you" into the piece. It can be whatever, but it'll at least give you more control on what you're creating.

That makes sense, I'll keep that in mind!
I also just watched the video on the topic that we were discussing. It is just so relieving to know that
my frustrations are valid and a real problem many other people deal with as well. Again, thanks for sharing.

No problem, and I'm happy to spread the word. The more artists that are in the "know" the better off we'll all be!
