Description
seventh of my stupid tea dragons in actionI totally forgot about green teas so this time it's fabulous and very popular Dragon Well tea known also as Long jing or Lung Ching
I totally messed colors so they are not meeting my original intentions. I hope it doesn't feel unfinished because I was a bit rushing in the end and I felt I shouldn't put too many details into it.

Yay for your tea dragons!
This particular creature is so cute with his long body and whiskers - such adorable Eastern dragon!
I also like colors a lot; bright green and yellow are such happy and vivid combination. So no worries even if they are not what you originally planned!

You're welcome and no worries, my eyes and monitor are still ok.
There definitely is a certain level of charm in these beasties; too bad I still haven't learned how to make their long bodies look natural...
But you really nailed it here. ^^

I really like your dragons. Your choice of vivid colors complement each other creating a balanced visual. And the texture, and shading are great too. Awesome job! You say that you used salt for the scale texturing and then watercolor painting? Did you ink the drawing first? I would like to learn more about your coloring style(s). Thanks for sharing.

oh thank you ! I am happy you like it ^^ I had big concern while making this one.
The process is very simple
The base is line work with black ink. I tend to make it thick and visible because watercolor covers it when I paint over. Than I make whole picture wet and put random aniline paint into it making it to bleed and mix together. It needs to be quite wet but not too much and I apply it over whole picture, even the dragon. Than I add salt (usually I do part by part because I am not fast enough and it dries fast) for different effects different amount. For big nice flowers just few crystals into not too wet paper and little piles for draining colors completely. I use big crystals , some kind of professional salt. Normal cooking salt can make same effect, though. Then!it needs to dry.. completely so often I leave it over night or on sunlight.
After removing salt I paint over with watercolors and trying to use some colors matching to the background and some completely different. It's not very difficult when you already have some underlayer so I color it mostly in flat colors and in the end add darker and lighter parts to make some depth. If it is needed I fix lines after finishing coloring but I always try not to cover over them. Still, it ends a bit messy and blurry and final effect is not predictable !

Awesome! Thank you very much for sharing. I will try this technique out. Can I let you know how it worked out for the drawing/ character I had in mind? And ask a few more questions about your style of coloring when I have them?

Ask any time you feel you need a help ! I am pretty sure it will work with any character as long as it is not very complex drawing colors always make their own way !

Really nice painting of an eastern dragon, I must say. Very smart and fleshy.

That sounds like quite a nummy tea! ;D The salt blooms in the background are really pretty, as is the musculature of your dragon...

haha it is ! It's a mixture of mint and some nice green teas. I don't remember what exactly but this tea is really great when you need some relaxation for mind and body. I highly recommend that !
Working with salt was really funny here. ALthough lot of textures got hidden under many layers of watercolors on dragons body. I really covered it all D:
I am not sure if I can speak about muscles here, because I draw all eastern dragons like noodles with legs !
