In a nutshell:
Back in the day when Clemency still ran the Clemmy's Cart Riot, Killian took a ride that didn't end so well. His cart smashed to pieces and he flew and tumbled down the hill. The bad luck that haunted him wherever he went used to annoy him and make him mad, but at that point he was done and didn't feel anything. He was done at trying, done at living, he'd be happy to just lay there until the earth claimed him. He lay there until the day's Riot rounds were over, and Clemmy came examine the field for casualties and broken carts. She found Killian just lying there, completely capable of getting up. Somehow his misery amused her.

They ended up chatting for some while, played with some flowers and boom, soulbond!
