Description WARNING: THIS IS A PARODY...DUH

I think the title is just a ploy to get more people to watch. They've done something like this before and nothing has happened. In the description of the episode it says that Ash and Serena go shopping for their Pokemon all by themselves. Serena takes it the wrong way.

I was laughing the whole time I was doing it haha!!

The Orange Island League was not a filler and I hate the word canon when referring to anime or video games. Because any side games or projects fans just write off as, "Oh, I don't like that because it's not canon. And that doesn't matter because it's not canon." The events leading up to the Orange Islands and afterwards prove that the Orange Island League did happen. So, it does matter and Ash did won the Orange Island League. It does matter. It's the same thing with Hyrule Warriors or the Zelda manga. The creator of Zelda said that it takes place in a separate timeline but that it is apart of the Zelda Universe. I consider the mangas the same. I think that people want Ash to fail. I bet if he wins the Kalos region, someone people will say, "OH!! NO, that's not canon!! It's a filler!!" It makes no sense and we should want him to win and when he does win, we shouldn't call it a filler just for the hell of it. The Orange Island League was not a filler. It's apart of the Pokemon series so, it's real.

good point on the Orange Island part.

also i do want Ash to win at least besides the orange league and the battle frontier. but after 5 regions, it leaves alot of very bad feelings and predictability. because its the same thing over and over with the guy. i wouldn't be like those people who wants him to fail, even though it happens all the time. and if he does win, i'd not only be really shocked that it took him so long to achieve that, but i'd also be impressed. i never saw or heard anyone think that when ash wins something, its a filler. but i can agree, it does sound really ridiculous, and something any fanboy would say.

Yeah you're right, poor Ash The writers have been so mean to him lately. The poor kid just wants to win and grow up and have a freaking girlfriend lol.

yeah, and right now, its just leaving hints that the romance between him and Serena is real. Even though it started out as a shoe-horned attempt to add in the idea.

Takeshi Shudo did care, though unfortunately, the other writers got cynical (really, just look at what Masamitsu Hidaka stated about what he viewed the girl characters in that interview with Pokebeach, and you'll see what I mean. He basically said the girls after May were solely meant to be eyecandy to fit into provocative outfits. It's bad enough that the girls have to be made absolutely shallow just to score cheap points, but it's even worse when you remember that they're 10 years old.). And even Shudo basically had Misty removed largely because he wanted to keep Team Rocket and also implied Misty wasn't "girl enough."

And about the Orange Islands league, yeah, it's canon (Ash and Misty did get Snorlax and Poliwag, respectively), but unfortunately, for some reason the writers don't count it as a league considering they had Ash continuing his journey, even when Masamitsu Hidaka stated in that same interview that Ash winning a league means the show is over (so why did the show continue after Orange Islands and the Battle Frontier, I must ask him?).

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

StarWarriorRobby In reply to otnesse [2015-02-07 02:00:40 +0000 UTC]

very good points there. though, if the other girls after May are meant  to be eye candy for the outfits and such, then what's their excuse with adding Iris into this, besides the fact that she's not only annoying, but just there to poke fun of how stupid ash is as a character? she's not like the other girls, she did get into more battles than the others when they're not situational, nor just for contests alone. and for whatever dumb reasons, she somehow becomes champion in BW2.

i call 'hypocrisy and greed' on those other writers thinking all that. plus, Misty doesn't need to be girly at all. because of her personality, she's good for both genders and not being just 1 note like how the other girls are. so saying all that was a really pathetic excuse to write her off just to add those other stereotypical chicks in, along with Iris being the insult to injury.

i can understand Shudo caring for the material and all, but its also sad that because of the other writers, he had no choice and everything went to spit from there. to those other writers, its all about the greed and marketing, not about the material nor the fanbase. and they come up with so many lame excuses along the way.

as for Orange Islands, yeah I realized that now. also, I didn't know where Misty got the Poliwag from, and I thought it was from Johto. but i mightve missed a few eps somewhere. but other than that, i understand what you mean.

otnesse In reply to StarWarriorRobby [2015-02-07 02:22:40 +0000 UTC]

Hard to comment on Iris myself since I've never seen her in action (well, technically, I've never actually watched BW at all, just getting my information from comments about it and Bulbapedia). However, from what I've heard, she's likely to not scream with the Fiorello Fangirls if she was in Princess vs. Princess, just like Misty before her. That's a redeemable trait of hers at least, especially considering how that episode is the reason why I know of that stereotype I hate. I can agree with you on the other female characters, though.

And yeah, no kidding about the writers. Misty had a few girly things about her in addition to tomboyish things (heck, the episode that earned my fanatical loyalty to Misty was in fact an episode that highlighted more of her girlish nature, Princess vs. Princess, and that was because she actually was the only female besides Jessie to NOT react like the Fiorello Fangirls at all, the primary source for the Female Anime Stereotype, otherwise named "Hina" thanks to both Love Hina and that episode due to the setting being "O-Hina town" in the Japanese version). It's in fact one of the major reasons why Misty was extremely popular and very well received, at least outside Japan: She actually was not going to sacrifice her femininity and become butch to succeed in her goals, yet at the same time she didn't come across as dizzily feminine. It's almost as though the writers' ideal girl is the likes of the girls from Love Hina, or Maron, Krillin's ex-girlfriend from Dragon Ball Z (Bimbos in other words, to put it bluntly). Now, don't get me wrong, I don't dislike girliness in itself. If done right, they can do well, like with Ariel from The Little Mermaid. However, if they are made so girly they come across as utter bimbos, that's going to be a problem right there (funnily enough, even though I am lukewarm to the triplets from Beauty and the Beast, slightly disliking them for their falling for someone like Gaston, I wouldn't call them bimbos because they don't sleep around and actually do have some intelligence even in the film, at the very least some good observation skills and some morality, and this is despite their official name being the bimbettes.).

And what they're doing is actually killing the show (AG actually had WORSE ratings than even Johto, which is saying something, and even DP, while doing marginally better than AG, still was somewhat bad with its ratings. BW was also bad, and I don't even need to state just how badly XY's been doing in terms of ratings. If Anime News Network is to be believed, XY's doing so badly, they actually had to move the series from TVTokyo to TVAsaki or something.), and what's worse, the writers are so bullheaded they aren't even taking the time to realize what they're doing IS killing the show and that there actually was a simple fix to all of this: Bringing Misty back. And honestly, for removing Misty, you would think they would have learned their lesson when they removed Brock for the Orange Islands and how that was an extremely bad idea to remove one of the main characters, but they didn't, and this is despite Misty being popular even in Japan, to say less about audiences in America and elsewhere.

The episode where Misty got Poliwag was the episode where she saved Ash, Tracey and even Jessie from Stun Spore Fever via Salveyo Weed.

Bringing Misty back isn't going to solve problems at all.

otnesse In reply to FSGarcia [2015-07-14 00:15:26 +0000 UTC]

You sure about that? Based on the increased ratings when she DID return in AG for a few episodes, it most likely would have solved the declining of ratings substantially. And keep in mind, the fact that their attempt at removing Brock in the Orange Islands ended in disaster, so that should have been a major hint to the writers that removing characters is a very bad idea. Besides, it would have at least eliminated the girl-swapping problem the writers have, that and swapping any characters who aren't Ash.

FSGarcia In reply to otnesse [2015-07-14 18:31:30 +0000 UTC]

Pretty certain. DP also enjoyed very good ratings, which continued on until the beginning of BW, where the ratings then gradually sucked down and were very low by the end of that series. Misty had nothing to do with either series--the show did itself in with poor writing and making Ash regress, driving many viewers away from the show.

Ash has also been criticized for being on the show for way too long--keeping Misty and Brock wouldn't help matters at all.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

otnesse In reply to FSGarcia [2015-07-14 19:08:08 +0000 UTC]

I wouldn't say that DP's ratings were all THAT good. They were good compared to BW and especially XY, certainly, even AG (although then again, AG really was a horrible series anyhow). But it still didn't reach the level of ratings Kanto or even Johto got. And to some extent, DP DID regress Ash. I really have a problem believing his Pikachu can lose to a rookie Ursaring, heck, even the first gym leader, when he pretty much took down a Regice largely by himself (and said rookie trainer got himself landed on his butt by Brandon just a few episodes earlier). Even if you argue that the Battle Frontier WAS just another Gym Leading thing that shouldn't even be a sign he became a master (considering Agatha actually suggested to Ash to challenge it alongside Scott, it wasn't), Brandon and Noland at the very least weren't just gym leaders, and may actually rival the Elite 4 due to their wielding Legendary Pokémon (heck, even OWNING Legendaries and presumably capturing them in battle in the case of Brandon).  Unless the series gets a 10 or more, it doesn't have very good ratings. Decent ratings, maybe, but not especially good. Especially good would be more like it having a 12, a 17 even.

And yeah, I got the complaints with Ash, and I've had a lot of complaints about how Ash is being depicted even in DP, to say little about Best Wishes myself. But guess what? Removing Misty, plus the whole character swapping bit (especially the girl swapping bit), is also a large contributing factor to the ratings decline in the series. There's zero point in even bothering to watch the series when they constantly have to remove the characters, especially the girls. A lot of people actually quit the show because of Misty's departure. In my case, it ensured I didn't return to the show after learning of what her replacement was like. I don't even like Brock due to their making him into a Glenn Quagmire-esque character, but I'm willing to tolerate his return if it boosts the ratings, the only conditions I ask for are that they actually give decent focus to his goal (ie, they actually SHOW what being a Pokémon Doctor is like, and not leave anything out, I don't want the mistake they made with his breeder goal where they don't even let him actually breed Pokémon), and they tone down his womanizing aspect significantly.

and not just bring misty back, fix up all the other plot holes they skipped out on. the GS Ball, Ash's Squirtle and Primeape, almost EVERY Pokemon Ash caught to be fully evolved and trained, and stop making Brock into more a creeper than before. that gag is really getting a little old. and its also insulting that Bonnie's doing the gags now, but for Clemont this time.
oh and most of all, AT LEAST, make Ash more aged and competent instead of being a self-recycling idiot.

speaking of Brock, i noticed that he's been around longer than Misty have up until gen 5. thats ok, but it still doesn excuse the fact that they replaced Misty with the other girls, then later replaced Brock with these bland characters. Cilan is just there to be a chef and comic relief of the group, yet TRIES too hard to be likeable. Clemont bores me, whereas Bonnie annoys me to some extent. But, no worse than freakin Barry in DP, and Bianca in BW. Those two were a migraine compared to Bonnie and what they really were in the games.

Agreed regarding the GS Ball and pretty much all the Pokémon Ash has met (we haven't seen Pidgeot or Butterfree despite his promising that he'll see them again someday), also Brock's womanizing gag needs to be cut as well, and I might as well also add in that Brock needs to actually demonstrate Pokémon Breeding since other than Togepi and Happiny (the latter of whom he actually continues to raise after hatching), considering they really dropped the ball there in Johto onward despite it being a mechanic in the actual games. Also agreed with having Ash age as well and actually retaining what he learned. At least Johto actually HAD Ash learning from his mistakes in Kanto. We can't have Squirtle and Bulbasaur evolve, though, especially not Bulbasaur since they already had an episode dedicated to Bulbasaur not wanting to evolve at all, and Squirtle... well, considering what happened with the Wartortle Squad, he definitely won't want to evolve anytime soon. And don't get me started on how Pikachu won't want to evolve either (same reasons as Bulbasaur, and Ash doesn't even have a Thunderstone anymore thanks to Team Rocket nicking it in Pika and Goliath and pawning it off) The rest of the Pokémon though, if they aren't explicitly or implicitly shown to not want to evolve, doggone it evolve them.

And yeah, there was definitely no excuse for what they did to Misty, especially when they basically forced her into a job she doesn't even want and forced her to give up on her goal. Even in her last appearance in the anime in AG, it was made pretty clear she didn't like being a Gym Leader and even went as far as to delay having to return to Cerulean Gym as long as possible. At least the girls after her actually DID pursue their goals when they left.

And quite honestly, I won't even be surprised if thanks to the writers' stupidity throughout the run since AG started that XY actually turns out to be the last series in the main Pokémon anime, not even making a new series for Generation 7 (assuming of course there even IS a Generation 7).

StarWarriorRobby In reply to otnesse [2015-02-07 03:50:31 +0000 UTC]

oh the Pikachu not evolving thing is all for bragging rights and because of the fact Pikachu's the mascot of the entire franchise. even despite the fact this is a completely useless glass cannon in competitive play, leaving Raichu, the strongest of the chus, completely overshadowed by Pikachu for years. Pikachu is THAT overrated.

Oh, and lets not forget about the movies. the first movie up to the giratina movie are some of the best written there is. but after the giratina movie, everything went to spit from there. especially the BW movies. The Victini blows, the Keldeo movie was very disappointing, and don't get me started on the nonsense known as the Genesect movie. Where the Dan Green Mewtwo was never addressed, yet we get a female Mewtwo that's somehow made by someone else, with no explanation whatsoever. That mess makes the appearance of Mewtwo in the Mirage Pokemon special look legit. and you have no idea how many people were outraged and confused by this idea in the Genesect movie. As for the Diancie and Hoopa movies, i don't freakin care. =_=

otnesse In reply to StarWarriorRobby [2015-02-07 12:55:20 +0000 UTC]

I guess you have a point there regarding Pikachu.

And regarding the movies, I'm not too certain all of them up to the Giratina movie were that well written. I definitely know Movie 9 wasn't exactly that good, especially regarding the ending. You'd think that it being May's movie and all would have May save the day, but instead, Ash has to save the day again. And why? Because in the climax, after Samiya is saved, and Phantom has a one last stand and basically manages to kidnap Manaphy (and in probably the most painfully obvious manner since you literally see his hat on the water moving towards them from behind. At least Vicious from 4Ever's capture of Celebi in the climax actually WAS a genuine surprise as we literally don't see it coming.), May all of a sudden gets cold feet, becomes extremely cowardly, and doesn't even ATTEMPT to rescue Manaphy despite the fact that he is effectively her child, and despite the fact that she most likely has a Squirtle on her team anyways, which CAN match up to Phantom's speed. I wasn't happy with May being used as a major character for the Manaphy movie even though it largely being about Water Pokémon would have given them the excuse of having Misty return, at least temporarily, to actually expand on her backstory and give her plenty of action, not to mention this was my first time hearing May's PUSA voice and it was even worse than her 4Kids voice. However, I could have forgiven all of that if they at LEAST had May actually being a mother to Manaphy when he needed her most and trying her hardest to rescue Manaphy, but based on what I saw, May didn't even try to save Manaphy, and it's not like she couldn't do anything at all, as she had that Squirtle. Had this been Misty in May's place, she would have stopped at NOTHING to rescue Manaphy from Phantom's clutches, try her very hardest to stop Phantom even before Ash was revealed to have survived.

i see what u mean.

also, alot of the PUSA voices are bad. so bad they made me miss the 4Kids voices. in fact, all the seasons from Battle Frontier to now made me miss 4kids a little more, since they make great openings and songs for the anime back then before we got all this boring, bland, cheesy, and uncreative opening themes PUSA have that only last for less than 20 seconds. its even insulting that they made the remix of the original theme in XY so short, but saved the full version for the Diancie movie. WHY? D:

I can't watch the episode, though as 1. I can't translate Japanese well enough to save my life, and 2., I'm boycotting Pokémon in an attempt to bring Misty back, and I'm unwilling to break from the boycott until I'm sure they've brought her back.

otnesse In reply to Kisarasmoon [2015-02-05 17:20:27 +0000 UTC]

Actually, I don't really mind spoilers being told to me. In fact, I prefer them (let's just say a bad experience with the film version of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets early on made me very dependent on spoilers, since the Basilisk's voice disturbed me enough to actually have me leave the theater, all because I didn't get to that point of the book, stopping where Harry and Ron got detention for the incident with the flying car). That being said, I probably would suggest using a note so you don't ruin it for everyone else on here, since I do realize that there are people who don't want to be spoiled.

I'm still somewhat reluctant to watch subs anyways, especially when I fear if I do watch subs, I'm somehow contributing to the Pokémon Company's ratings and revenue, and I want to make sure they suffer enough to realize removing Misty is a bad move and thus bring her back.

Yeah, and what's worse is they aren't even realizing the solution to their problems is to bring Misty back, and possibly Brock as well.

Speaking of which, I really must ask, should I get Super Smash Bros 4? I want to do the Mewtwo DLC thing (that and get coins for Club Nintendo), but I'm also at the same time reluctant to get them out of fear that my money will go to the writers of the Pokémon Anime as a result. I kinda need to know the answer before March 31 because that's the deadline for the DLC offer. Not to mention the deadline for any games pre-January announcement to stop being accepted on Club Nintendo, though that bit's not that necessary since I can use any game besides SSB4 for that. To a lesser extent, buying any of the main Pokémon games DOESN'T impact the anime one way or another, right? One person inferred the Anime doesn't actually directly impact the games sales in any way, but I want to make absolute certain whether such is the case, because if the games don't impact the anime in any way, I might consider lessening the boycott to only things directly relating to the Anime.

Yeah, it's more likely a cheap ratings ploy and not actually going to be a true date, sort of like how Date With Delcatty's Japanese title made it seem as though Misty would do a life-risking maneuver, when in the actual episode, it didn't even come close to actually risking her life. Or how the previews for Luvdisc is a Many Splendored Thing made it seem as though Orangeshipping would be canon when in reality, most of the "confirmation" was just Daisy letting her imagination run wild, and even the one bit that came close to actually being real was basically due to Misty and Tracey being affected by Luvdisc's attract for the purposes of Daisy's water show. The Simpsons in its 26th season premiere even notoriously pulled something similar where it strongly implied that a major character would die, when in reality, although a character did indeed die, it was NOT a major character, it was Rabbi Krustofski, Krusty the Clown's dad, who isn't a major character at all, at best being a minor character, and at worst mostly being a background character. That last bit was also given extremely negative reception and controversial reviews on its airing, enough that even the showrunner had to admit they overhyped the entire thing.

Still, might as well wait until the episode airs this coming Thursday, just to be on the safe side. After all, Tarkin thought he was guaranteed a victory with the Death Star, yet he ended up being incinerated by a proton torpedo in an exhaust port blowing up the entire thing.

And quite frankly, I don't care about either shipping, especially when A., none of the characters fell for each other via Love at First Sight (you can thank Disney for why I feel love at first sight is the way to go), and B. they're ten years old, not old enough to even focus on romance and mating yet. That being said, I'd probably consider Pokeshipping more likely by probabilities, as while Serena does indeed have a crush on Ash, it was one-sided with Ash being oblivious at best to her feelings, while with Misty and Ash, there have been instances of hints from both of them and actual chemistry between them.

Kisarasmoon In reply to otnesse [2015-01-30 09:17:09 +0000 UTC]

Yeah I agree that we've seen Ash appear to have a crush on Misty than any other girl. Ash hasn't really shown and interest in anyone else. Because like you said, he is 10 (still lol) Serena just doesn't seem like the right match for him to be honest. They have no real connection and the "romance" is one sided.

I would actually be grateful if Ash is dense throughout said episode. Serena may finally notice that he's not into her like that.
