Description
PLEASE FULLVIEWThis is a long overdue gift for who, once upon a time, a very very long time ago, was my 100th watcher. I promised her a mermaid, and it’s taken me an embarrassingly long time to finish it.
This was done in one day. Today actually finished at almost two am, I did the line art at school and started CGing it as soon as I got home. Eight and a half hours it took me. I have never sat still that long, not even for one of the Spacescapes I’ve done. Initally she didn't have anything over her chest, no, it wasn't perverted... but my brother and his friends took a vote and they liked it better this way.
I know she's upsidedown... it was a fun pose and I loved doing the lighting.
This was a first attempt at a background that’s actually a scene of sorts. It was done completely on the computer.
Story, character and art are all © me.
Once upon a time, hundreds and thousands of years ago, the people of Atlantis found favor in the eyes of their gods.
The gods then gave them the gift of magic. The people of Atlantis could use this gift however they wished, but they could not use it to harm, nor gain control of other cultures.
The magicians of Atlantis used the gift well and within a short time, Atlantis was the most advanced culture the world had ever known. Unfortunately when one gains extraordinary amounts of power and knowledge, one usually gains enemies as well.
Fearing for the safety of their citizens the magicians of this advanced culture began to experiment with cross-genetic creations. Thus Merfolk, and their Seasprite cousins came to into being. Created as defenders for the Island, these fish people lived in the waters surrounding the Island of Atlantis. It wasn’t long before the neighbors of the small Island heard about this and took it as an act of war.
The battle did not last long, for the fish people were well trained to sink any unfriendly ships. Puncturing the underside of a ship and allowing the hull to fill with water achieved this. One ship had gone down and one man had drowned before the gods stepped in. By using their magic to create creatures that could and would kill other humans, the people of Atlantis had broken their word to the gods.
Shortly after that, the Island of Atlantis was swallowed up by the ocean never to be seen again. The Merfolk and Seasprites still exist, but in hiding. On the rare occasion that they are sighted, more often then not they are mistaken for Sirens. They are there however, under the waters where Atlantis used to be and in the dreams of children and artists.

Many frusterating hours spend with the brush set to liniar dodge. You start with a dark color where it's dark, and with it set to a low setting, slowly work your way up, decreasing the brush size the lighter the color gets. I suck at explaining things.... If you want to know more, feel free to message me

Great work on all those details and making her tail so lovely. xD <3
I also adore the story.. >3< <33 I love it when people put more behind a character other than just a pretty face. x3 xD *faves*

I like this because it's not the typical pose that you would normally see for a mermaid. Very nice!

It's a beautiful piece of artwork... Just... if she is floating upside down underwater, wouldn't her hair flow out differently?

Thank you luv! I'm glad you like it
Yeah... Others have mentioned that as well... She's not floating upside down, she's swimming down... I think... I realise now that I should have done the hair a little differently.
well I know for next time. Even though the next one is all inked and almost all CG'd already... Doh!!
