Description
(A little nervous about the reactions for this one . . . )
And finally, the main character of the game! Sheesh, I had meant to post this thing a long time ago but I kept postponing it for some reason, so yeah, the date under the signature is written back to last month when I actually finished the darn thing!
Okay, I've already heard a lot about how the Undertale fan base is with choosing Frisk's gender, (even though I'm pretty sure leaving Frisk genderless was so that the player can choose the gender, but whatever.) though I don't know how they are now three years later after the game came out, but I'm just going to get this discussion over and done with. My view on what Frisk's gender would be continues to fluctuate depending on art design. And I know people tend to like to call Frisk a 'they' and a 'them' (even though, grammatically speaking, 'them' and 'they' are used to describe a group of people and not one individual. The proper term would be 'it', but whatever!) without choosing a gender at all which is totally fine with them but, in my personal opinion, it's a lot harder if, say, I chose to write. So, for the sake of my sanity, I'm going to choose Frisk's gender (for my own version anyway.) and I don't want to hear about it.
Anyway , when I started off this picture I didn't have any chosen gender in mind. I was just going to try to draw a child and whatever it ended up looking like would be the gender. I had absolutely no idea if Frisk would end up looking boyish or girlish and I didn't really care. In the end though, Frisk ended up looking more like a girl, so yeah, that is what 'she' will be in all my Undertale fan art. Sorry.
(I took up all my room to rant instead of talking about the freakin picture. >.> Whoops!)
I'm sure you all can figure out where exactly Frisk is right now. Right after leaving the ruins during the pacifist run where everything is all 'warm' and dandy and she's having a great time exploring things. (And yeah, I made the path curvy instead of straight just to make it more interesting.) I tried to give Frisk the golden/yellow skin but she ended up looking like she had jaundice disease and it bugged the heck out of me so I decided to give her regular skin color. (I'm so jealous of the people who could pull that off. ) I'm not so happy with the clothing wrinkles but I'll do better next time! Played around a lot with the oil brush and I do kind of like it.
Tell me what you think of Frisk in my style! (I might end up changing it later. Who knows. ) Comments and constructive criticism is appreciated. (Is anybody even going to read this long dang description? Lol)
I do not own Undertale. (Obviously.) All credit goes to Toby Fox.

I mean, yes they/them is normally used for a group of people. But I know people who use "they" when referring to a person that they don't know the gender of. And sure the correct term would be "it" but I think (emphasis on I think) people use "they" because "it" is usually used when referring to an inanimate object?? Whereas "they" still refers to people. I dunno that was just my thoughts, Idk if that's right or not. As for the writing thing, yes it can get confusing on rare occurrences, but when I've written about Chara and Frisk and used they/them pronouns, I've had minimal issues. I personally refer to Frisk and Chara as they/them mainly because that's what I've seen them as, and also because I couldn't really think of what gender I wanted to have them be, nor did I really want to since having representation is cool and all idk.
As for the drawing, I think Frisk looks very cute! I like how they're playfully curious instead of wary and scared.

Well, I don't necessarily mind it when people refer to someone as a 'they' but in my mind I will always think of 'they' as more than one person. While 'it' is a pronoun that can describe, yes an object, but it is also used to describe a person or a place as well. Another reason why I chose Frisk's gender myself is because of my drawing capabilities. I already have a hard enough time trying to draw a child in either gender. Trying to make them gender neutral in look is another challenge. And, in my opinion, I think others struggle with it as well. I notice in several Frisk drawings that, despite the artist may say the child is neither a boy, nor a girl, their style tends to lean to one or the other and I end up calling it a 'he' or a 'she' depending on what my brain sees. Though children are easier to draw neutral then adults are because children tend to carry the same features. (Chubbiness, large eyes, big lips, etc.) Until they grow up and hit puberty and their features become more defined.
I don't know, I thought long and hard about this. And I honestly wished that I could have kept Frisk 'gender neutral' for the sake of whoever looks at my art. But when I drew her, she didn't come out that way so, this is what I'm going with. But thanks for the opinion anyway and I hope you can stick around for more. (Cause there will be more Undertale. I have a while before I'll get tired of this fandom. )
(And in all honesty, when I created this, a part of me was thinking of a 'Baby's Day Out' scenario. LOL)

Yeah, that's fair. I try to make Frisk and Chara look as neutral as possible, I have an easier time with Frisk than I do with Chara, but I agree, it is hard to make people look gender neutral enough.

Thanks! (But seriously, I'm not trying to change anybody's view points. These are mine alone and I wanted to make the path clear before putting out more fanart.)

Np !
(Ya and it's ok, I understand that some people are the kind of people that'll comment ''...but he/she/they/it is/are aboy/girl/no gender/etc.'' and it'S for those peeps ^^ Personnally, I never try to put any gender to them, just appreciate the personnalities/etc. in the fanart and not wondering ''Is this a boy or a girl'', just enjoying the drawing ^w^)
