so basically the au goes off of two points:

-how everglow's soul was scattered across the multiverse during his metamorphosis

-how the great tree wasn't really...the most ethical god

i like bringing everglow into other groups! and i loved devidae. but devidae is kinda...long since dead, and it would be like trying to bring him into a wasteland as there's nobody to even approve a transfer right now.

according to the oru that ended up in grimsby grove, the great tree is dead. somehow reduced to splinters, something destroyed the tree someday, causing onset to collapse and many devidae to either flee or perish.

though the great tree wasnt really...the best guy??

he gave devidae strange dreams and asserted their destinies .

the dead could never really be contacted as he essentially absorbed them. (something from the old discord where derry confirmed there just...aren't any dae ghosts or even an afterlife.)

he basically only saw his devidae as an extension of himself, something to keep him alive.

so in those last moments where the tree is dying, he comes across a shard of everglow's soul. using the last of his energy and the soul he creates one last devidae, a vessel for himself to leave his post and find where his devidae have gone. his plan is to regain energy, find them, then put down roots to begin all over again. he's tried to explain to everglow and the others in his head that he NEEDS to do this and y'know, maybe once he's fully grown again he'll give them their own bodies, but they aren't having it.

everglow is just miserable. he misses his home and his family, and is the most tangled in roots.

acolyte is willing to work with this deity but is highly critical of his methods, and suspects there's more to his story. they can't actually be held down by the roots due to their willpower.

neverglow absolutely isn't having it and refuses to even look like a devidae. the tree has to put more mental energy into holding him down because he WILL try to sabotage whatever he's doing. neverglow doesnt actually look like that but i dont think i can actually put the meme text sdgkbsh

starlight has decided the best method is to be an adorably annoying child until he lets them go. they've at least managed to convince him that he can't tangle them in roots bc they're just a "wittle baby"
