Description Again this was a random picture I drew. I decided to experiment with Adobe Illustrator and add color to the picture. I know I have a long way to go though, since I need to add more depth to the color. But it would be nice to hear someone else's opinion on it. Like I said before this character has no definitive gender. Original: [link]

Hahahaha, you know, you hit the nail on the head all by yourself! =3 The only thing I think anyone could say is more depth to your work would look awesome!
Even when going for a genderless depiction of a person, it's typically genderless because an artist combines attributes of two different genders. On the other hand, you don't really have many defined points of any gender (excluding the hair, since hair styles don't classify gender) XD

To be honest....? There's virtually nothing wrong with this picture! The face is drawn out well, the hair looks nice, the eyes are shaded well... It just happens to be that you could add a lot more to a simple thing! So forgive me if what I say next is WAY more than you asked for >w<;

For a start, your base for this is completely symmetrical except the nose and hair. If you wanted to add more depth, the easiest way to do so is drawing it by hand, regardless of how unsymmetrical it turns out! A great example of things in real life that are unsymmetrical are eyes. When eyes are drawn, they look most natural when they aren't exactly the same.
XD; It sounds like pretty weird advice, I'm sure... but defects make characters more interesting! Also, the same applies to anatomy. There are all kinds of subtle curves in necks, noses, lips, ears and of course, jaws, that are hard to see --and are even harder to draw-- in either gender! Obviously, depending on what style you want... you never have to draw all of them =3 You just need to pick a few of the curves you notice the most in people and experiment with them! Focusing on the way anatomy looks will also help you with your shading... UNDOUBTABLY. As in... MY GOODNESS, THE WORLD BECOMES ROUND WHEN ANATOMY MAKES SENSE. XDDD

Mmmm... I generated a pretty big paragraph... >_> Sorry about that if I pretty much took the baton and fled the track...

No, you are fine; couldn't help but screenshot your advice to ensure I don't loose it (even though I know it would be here on DA). I really appreciate the advice and I want to work with and experiment with everything you said. Oh, and it's always easier for me to draw traditionally then create it digitally anyway, so I think it would be a good idea for me to draw it first like you stated.

Hahaha, wow! I'm glad I could be of help then! =3 I'll keep an eye out for when you do! Talent hides in mysterious places~ <3

generally your proportions are good. I would lower the eyes (and eyebrows), because your eyes are on the same line as the top of your ears, then you get a wider forehead. Also make the nose bigger

Thank you for the advice. I honestly didn't think about doing so until you mentioned it. I really appreciate the feedback.

Mhm, I plan to do that to make it more proportionate.

I'd add some more details to hair and eyes. And shading around eyes, mouth and nose, like you already did at the neck, but try and follow the curves to create a feeling of depth. And you could experiment with several shades of red for the eyes.

And thank you for the feedback on creating depth of color. I plan to recreate it and keep what you said in mind.
