Description
Edit: If you think the old one is better, please leave. I don't need your comment telling me I haven't improved after 7 years of practice. Saying that on an improvement chart is rude and uncalled for. I will be rude back if you do this.Because why not?

I'm kind of on the fence. I like the darkness of the second one, but the first one looks a little better overall to me. It's really cute and doesn't look as... rushed? Maybe rushed isn't the word. I have no doubt that you worked very hard on both, because it shows. It could also just be personal preference.
However, in the second one, I am in love with the antennas(?).
I see that you improved in some ways, but improvement in one person's eyes isn't always better in someone else's.
I'm not trying to be rude by saying I prefer the first one, so don't get upset. I still think they're both good and a thousand times better than anything I could ever do. Don't stop drawing. Keep at it. It's obvious that it makes you happy.

Thank you for the nice comment. I know some people think cuter is always better, and well, this character was never meant to be cute in the traditional sense. I believe I captured his "mutant" personality a lot better the second time around, even if it meant sacrificing cuteness. Back in the day, all my characters had the same face and body shape. I was too conservative with all aspects of artmaking and character design. The lines all had the same weight and I was afraid of dark shading. Now this character is more original in his structure, and the piece is more free to express his personality.
I've worked hard on improving time efficiency, mood, atmosphere and expressiveness of lines and colour. If some people prefer my older one they are free to think so, but I guess it bothers me when they dismiss my work on other factors besides "cuteness".

I understand that. I can only imagine (because I don't have an artistic bone in my body) how frustrating it would be to have someone say things like that to you.
You definitely captured the mutant aspect of it. It certainly looks more likely to bite my face off if it doesn't like what I feed it. lol
I'm actually a huge fan of art with thicker lines. It gives pieces more personality a lot of the time.
Cute isn't always better, for sure. I don't doubt that people will still say they prefer the first one, but just keep in mind that it's probably personal preference, even if they don't say it. You're very talented either way and nothing anybody says should make you feel bad about what you've done.

Wow, it's awesome to see all the improvement! Your art has grown a bunch over the years, especially your shading! I really love those drippy ears.

Thanks a lot! Yeah I can see that my art has matured with me. It's less cutesy and has a touch more realism and thought put into the designs. ^^ Thank you for the nice comment

Thanks but that comment is unnecessary.

Umm, well every comment I leave on anything is "unnecessary", But that doesn't mean I'm not going to not leave one.

Not trying to be mean or anything, but I like the older one better.

Generally it's not nice to say that on an improvement chart. But thanks for the comment anyway.

Yes, but if your opinion is that my art has gotten worse over the last 7 years then it's not welcome on my page.

That's why there is something called "constructive criticism". The older style looks cuter and more original, while the newer look has more details.

If you knew what constructive criticism was, you would have given me some. All you said was "I like the older one better." That's not constructive. Constructive criticism is when you tell me how to improve my work. All you said was that you liked my work from seven years ago more than my work now.
Stop trying to justify insulting me as an artist. You're not doing me a favour by saying you like the "before" more.

You don't get the point of it. I clearly wasn't insulting your art. If I ever did a meme and someone said the old one is better, I'll respect that person's opinion and try improving even more. That's not insulting. If I was insulting you, my comment will be all like "OOO DATS TERRIBLE THE OLD ONE IS BETTAH QUIT DRAAAWIN". *shrugs* DeviantART users these days...

"DeviantART users these days..."
You're 14 and have been on DeviantArt 10 months. Go take a nap and practice drawing.
