Description
I confess that I am a sucker for the story and have been since I saw the 2004 film and read the book as a teenager. It was very much like my Twilight back in the day: a dark but enchanting tale of a beautiful woman and a monstrous man in a deeply poisonous relationship (which I will admit to romanticizing) that I was utterly obsessed with. Looking back as an adult, I will admit that the relationship between Erik and Christine is far from the healthiest and that the 2004 film doesn’t quite hold up but I can never bring myself to hate it because it opened a lot of doors for me and I do still love the book.Naturally, I’ve wanted to revisit the wicked little tale for quite some time but I knew that I wanted it to be more faithful to the book and the composition took me a while to figure out.
Gods, how long has it been since I’ve done phanart? Too long, I say!

I discovered it the same time, and came to the same slow realisations as an adult! Still, same as you though, can't hate it -- and the film has its flaws, but for me nothing can ace the nostalgia and the dramatic spectacle of settling down to watch it!
Nicely done, very much a book-inspired piece.

Thank you! Yes, the film does not hold up at all but I can't hate it because it opened a lot of doors for me and the book is so much better.

Lovely work. Eeek, 2004? I remember being obsessed after seeing the stage musical and going on a London-wide bookshop search with a friend to find a new edition of the novel (the top floors of Foyles eventually produced two copies, amid teetering piles of books and stacks of boxes as they were undergoing a re-fit and for some reason had decided to stay open during it....) And then when I visited Paris I remember rushing up the steps in the opera house and basically running around squeeeeeeeing my little teenage heart out. I was never that bothered with the romance side of it, I just loved the underground passageways and the costumes...
