I get crossed eyed when I try to see the difference of canon and crack shipping, especially since I prefer to watch the end of a show before I say, "Yeah this person and this person are the canon pairing." Crack always feels like it will never be possible and I only use the crack pairing term if the two characters NEVER interact with one another and somehow there's a shipping towards it. I could care less if its two guys or two girls honestly in any pairings. Its just the fans wishing for something more, no harm in letting someone enjoy a series to his or her choosing, but I understand how its slammed in people's faces a lot of the time. I just suck it up and remind myself, we all love this show and this is how some people love it.

To each his own, but in shows based on comics like Teen Titans, Justice League, Batman and Young Justice-- canon pairings or at the very least, their sexuality should already be well known if you're already familiar with the comics/characters. I don't mind crack as much as slash (pairing off two guys or two girls off when it isn't canon), however. Slash creeps me the fuck out (and I admit at the time of drawing this, I didn't know enough about the subjects in question).

I just hate the idea of girls (mostly) pairing off two straight men. And, let' face it-- they don't do it because the characters have a 'special/meaningful bond'. They do it because it gets them off. And, yes, it's everywhere. I can't look up, say, Dick Grayson (Robin/Nightwing) anywhere without getting some kind of obscure pairing of he and Wally (Kid Flash) or hell, Bruce (Batman) even.

I for one really don't mind male/male or female/female relationships when they're canon. It's easy to distinguish what's canon and what isn't by the end of an episode or two, especially in animes (most American cartoons, etc don't really do male/male or female/female pairings, come to think of it).

Crack pairings, however, (strictly speaking with male/female relationships) are a little half-half. I mean, yeah, you watch a show and you're all 'Yeah, I like these two together. 8D' then you find out they both end up with someone else and you're all ' I still ship these two.'. It's up to the eye of the beholder, I suppose. But as far as my opinion goes-- I do prefer and always will prefer the canon pairings. Doesn't matter if they're straight or not, either (I cannot stress enough that I'm not a homophobe or gay-hater). But in saying that, the canon pairings aren't always topnotch, either, so...

As for sexuality being changed for a pairing purpose, I just have one comment to make. Its fanfiction or fanart, those key words should ease those woes about change of sexuality in any fandom, to me at least. They are just an fan's desires being spoken through art and I, myself, could care less about what a person wants to see, but to each their own.

Me, myself, I have limitations on what I can watch at whats consider an pairing. It needs to have a realistic reasoning as to why they would even consider themselves together other then the female characters aren't that appealing. I admit sometimes I just enjoy the idea of a couple over another couple because of the amusing chemistry that is brought to surface. But I would never say, "They must be together!". I hardly say that with the pairings that are canon that I do like and other people ship something else.

I could care less for what another person likes or dislikes, as long as they can respect that I like something he or she might not like as well. I wouldn't jump the gun and say your homophobic or any of that so do not worry.

I think tolerance is a big role in shipping. You got to be able to breath and move on. I just like to remind myself, they are having fun and I have no right to complain towards their fun.

Yeah, but, thing is-- it can and does make some people uncomfortable to see it. The fanfiction, sure, that can be ignored but the fanart? Fat chance. Seeing two straight guys together really creeps and grosses me out and, hell, I'm co-founder of a Het-Only group (if there can be slash-only groups, there damn well can be Het-Only) and people still try to submit male/male slash.

Again, to each his own: it all comes down to opinion. I can respect someone else's opinion so long as they respect mine.

Hilarious! I usually go with canon pairings with few exceptions:
1. said character just isn't in a relationship in cannon and their not hinted at being asexual.
2. HotGear or Hotstreak/Richie from Static Shock. This is definitely a crack pairing and I find it very funny in some instances.

I "support" different pairings, may they be crack or legit. But I'm not a die-hard shipper. 'Cause I think die-hard shipping is stupid. It's all fictional, not serious business, and even so, the characters themselves should come first in ones' support of them: not whether or not they're ****ing each other's brains out.

The comic is funny, BTW. I especially like the Raven/Starfire moment there.

I don't mind crack pairings, but it's the slash that gets me going. I really don't like the thought of pairing two straight men/women off with people of the same sex. Though, I'm not against it when it's canon.

Thanks.

The third one made me fall over with laughter. Particularly with describing Robin as 'dark and mysterious' and her going to Raven instead.
And ESPECIALLY with Raven's reaction. 'HUMAN CONTAAAAACT. MUST ANNIHILATE.'
But the FIRST one I found funniest. 'HE HAS A PEEEEEENIIIIIIIIIIIIIS'

The odd thing about the third crack pairing though... is that it's the most plausible of the three whilst at the same time being impossible. >.< What I mean is that Starfire, what with loving EVERYTHING, is already halfway there and Raven... well let's just say that she hasn't exactly had any boyfriends made of anything but paper.
Did I of all people just say that a yuri couple was more plausible than Robin and Wally? o_o I'm not a supporter of Non-Canon couples in any show TBH.

Crack pairings are hilarious. They are usually formed because of the 'Opposites attract' theory, like GokuxVegeta and StarfirexRaven and RayxKai(beyblade) and RobinxSlade (Which was created after Slade got all creepy with Robin in episode 'Hanted' where he was just robin's hallucination).
What people don't realise is that JUST because you like two characters or thing that their personalities contrast so well together that they'd make the perfect 'opposites', you shouldn't randomly change the sexualities of characters to suit these. It's just sexist behaviour to do so.

kittycakez In reply to allen-mikk [2012-05-01 07:27:25 +0000 UTC]

SPOILERS AHEAD. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

Yeah, they seemed to have skipped 5 years into the future. Robin is now Tim Drake, Dick Grayson is now Nightwing, and there are several new members. Wonder Girl (Cassie), Lagoon Boy, Blue Beetle (Jaime), Batgirl (Barbara) and Beast Boy (Garfield), if I recall correctly. Mal and Bumblebee (Karen) have also made an appearance.

Miss Martian and Superboy have broken up, too. M'gann is now with Lagoon Boy so methinks they're setting themselves up for Conner/Cassie action. >w> Zatanna has also joined the Justice League, by the looks of it. But the 'core team' from Season one, only appears to consist of Dick, Conner and M'gann.

Wally and Artemis haven't even made an appearance, yet. Nothing from Kaldur and Roy, either.

... Maybe their voice actors were smart enough to run away? I saw the episode a few hours ago and it made me want to beat my head against the wall.

THEY CAN'T JUST DO THAT!
(warning, Major Comicbook fanboy rant ahead -MCFR for short- If you feel you do not care, turn back)

Even Justice League Unlimited had some introduction at the end of Justice League. But no, they just throw us 5 freaking years in the future, have the characters go through more development than guns have in the past 400 years, and go through an entire bloody Robin OFF SCREEN! And what happened to Beast Boy being on the Doom Patrol? was that just skipped over? That is important backstory they just wiped out. You cannot just wipe that out.

And Lagoon Boy, really? He was the comedic relief when the comedic relief was on vacation. I'll admit I like the addition of Blue Beetle, but still. I feel like they took a few of DC Comics best eras, mashed them into one gigantic cesspool, and now expect me to swallow it. And what the hell? Did Superboy just not age during these five years?

Add on to this that their Batgirl looks far too young, their Wonder Girl too old, and they somehow sucked the badass out of Lobo. I didn't even know you COULD suck the badass out of Lobo.

And the aliens.... they looked like deformed Genomorphs.

They do some things right, like Lagoon Boy being.... overconfident -see 'a douchebag' in the closest dictionary- and Tim Drake being insecure, and Blue Beetle seeming like a psycho. THIS DOESN'T MAKE UP FOR THE BULL THAT I HAD TO SIT THROUGH. I mean come on, when I watch an episode of 'Ultimate Spiderman' and like it more than a DC TV show, there is something wrong.

One of two things must happen, or I might write off all DC TV shows in the future. Either this is all a dream/future flash and things will return to normal, or they better have one DAMN GOOD plot.

Chyeah, probably.

Now, I do agree with you for some of those points. Especially the whole aliens looking like 'deformed Genomorphs'. Because that was my first thought once I saw them. >___>;

On the other hand, saying 'I feel like they took a few of DC Comics best eras, mashed them into one gigantic cesspool, and now expect me to swallow it' in regards to season two only is a little absurd, considering they pretty much did the same in season one.

Now, I don't exactly know your opinion on season one, but I'd love to hear it because I for one was not impressed by it.

I read somewhere that Conner doesn't age. Something to do with how he was made. And as for the whole 5 year time skip... Even though I *do* prefer it this way, it pretty much renders season one totally pointless. LOL

I wouldn't write off *all* DC TV shows. Just the ones written by Greg Weisman. >_>

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

allen-mikk In reply to kittycakez [2012-05-01 08:40:29 +0000 UTC]

Season 1.... was about about a 6.7/13 on my scale. Just barely good enough to keep watching. Plus it had the DC stamp of approvalβ„’ something that used to mean something. But still, even they didn't go quite as far as to blatantly rip off (almost completely) an entire titan's team. all they need is Static Shock and that will be everyone.

And yeah, Conner at one point didn't age. That was corrected within one or two years though. Afterwards he aged like everyone else. one of his traits in the Young Justice Comics was stubble for a while for godsake.

Back on point though, I was willing to put up with Season 1, for three (or 4 depending on if you count the minor reason) reasons: first off, it -loosely- followed a lot of the original plot points. supercycle, forever people, match, etc. second, it also had its own completely original plot that had Lex Luthor and Vandal Savage teaming up, which is a dream team of evil if I've ever seen one.
another, smaller reason was the original take on Dr. Fate. It was interesting to say the least.

The big reason though was because they stayed loyal to the 'small' team idea. Young Justice was never meant to be a gigantic team. They aren't THE LEAGUE, they aren't THE TITANS. They are not ready for the 'big boy' pants, they don't play well with others. In other words, they are every free nation's worst fear: Superman&Batman with teenage hormones.

Sure, the team was slightly off, and except for a pointless subplot, replacing Arrowette (who won my heart in the comics for telling off the justice league) with Artemis is wasteful. Same thing with replacing Secret with Miss Martian. They do develop the characters more than the comics EVER did, which I like though, so it balances out. My only big issue with Season 1... until they pushed Icon's sidekick onto the team to give Aqualad a love interest... was Zatanna.

-MCFR-
Did she get de-aged behind my back? Because I'm pretty sure SHE WAS A LOVE INTEREST OF BATMAN! I can see how this conversation went in the studio

Idiot 1: Derp! We need a lurve interest for Dick!
Idiort 2: Derp! you said Dick!
Idiot 1: doy, I'z know!
Idiot 2: Duh, I knowz. Lets uze Zatanna, She's a minor character from Gotham, I'ma Sure knowwon willz notize.
Sensible Person:... But cameoed in both Justice League and Batman: the Animate Series? Also, wasn't she a major player in some of the relatively recent Justice League comics? And doesn't she have her own comic book series? won't this be a major insult to the fans? and don't you mean TIM?
Idiot 1&2: SILENCE! We will do it this way, and you shall say nothing!
Sensible Person: yessirs...

-RANT OVER-

Mind you, I grew to like their Zatanna the same way I enjoyed their wally in replace of Impulse, their Artemis for Arrowette, M'gann for Secret, and the addition of Kaldur.

Season 1 was OK. and had what would have been a perfect ending for the series. Big villain(s) defeated, old issues resolved, character growth to the extent that they save the mentors, and everyone gets a romance. I wouldn't recommend the show to hardcore DC fans, but they'd find it on their own. This show probably hits its demographic of Teens just growing too old for Saturday TV shows, but would keep tuning in for that ONE awesome show that just has everything. And for that, it's perfect. But again... for the comic fans? please go enjoy watching B:TAS.
