The hair things are distracting only because thye're so dark compared to the rest of the picture. If the facial features and shadows had equivalent strength and definition, they'd blend in.

hehe, interesting picture, I think the front perspective works quite well. but these thingies in her hair are a bit distractive, my eye tends to look there only. you should make them smaller I think
